Hi Bob-
This is in response to the person who had the 'burping' powerglide problem.
I too had the same problem and got the answer from this list about a year
ago. I purchased the one-way in line valve sold by Classic Chevy made
specifically for this problem. The part No. is 19-28 and the cost was $22
a
year ago. Their number is 1-800-456-1957. (A cool number.) The only
hassle was that I had to wait about 2 months to get it because they were
out
of stock and probably had to order a batch to be made. Maybe you'll be in
luck and they will have one on the shelf. It was easy to install and I
haven't had a 'burp' since.

without the front end.
It would be a pleasure to know how to change these things without spending

Hello Bob,
A while back someone wrote about using '68 - '72 Chevelle spindles
on a '55 - '57 to produce a low buck disc brake conversion. They said to
swap the spindles left for right to correct the steering arm location and
"PRESTO" !! Use the Chevelle calipers and rotors and away you go. The
problem is no one wrote in to say if this works, or what the drawbacks
were.
I went out and dug up a pair of spindles/backing plates/rotor brackets from
a Chevelle (they don't come real cheap either!). Once home and I set them
side by side, there is a difference of probably 3" in the height of the
ball
joint holes. I don't see how this would work at all. Anybody have any more
to share? Thanks, Jim. (nomadman2001@netzero.net)

Bob, keep up the good work - really enjoying the site:
Would also like to mention dealers in Painesville Ohio and Horseheads New
York: after driving several hours and numerous long distance telephone
conversations, asking specific questions about condition of cars, etc., and
being reassured that they were "mint," came to find them to be close to
trash and enough fiberglass to build a fleet of corvettes and enough rust
to
build another Brooklyn Bridge. So, buyer beware, as usual! And, every car
price was $10,000 over market value!!

Bob,
1) On Tiffany question on auto insurance, I have use Hagerty (800-922-8410)

for years. Value is EASILY negotiated; if there is a claim, I have
experienced quick responses with no hassles; rates are very reasonable; and

as you put money into the car, they are not reluctant to increase coverage.

You will, of course, need to get pictures. This is the only one I have had

dealings with.

t-shirts - Bob, I have had many from many places and my wife, who is an
excellent sewer, cut the fronts off the shirts and made a large blanket.
Each shirt is about 12 inches square; she had 3 across (36") and 4 down
(48")...each one is separated by a couple of inches of plain grey
material...the piece is completed by purchasing some brick material. I
have
it in the car and have received several comments about it.

Can anybody help me with a question I have about the 55 wagons. Did Chevy
make a 2 door 210 station wagon in 1955? I was looking in Danchuk's
catalog for interiors and they don't list a 210 as an option. I am looking
at a wagon that the owner says is a 210. So is it a 150 and the owner is
wrong or is it a 210 and Danchuk is just incomplete in their offerings?
Thanks

I was hoping that someone on the list could decode these numbers for me.
Here is what I know:
The date code is: F1959
The block casting number is: 3756519
The engine number is the odd one I think, it is: T63OD

I know the engine was built on June 19, 1959 according to the date code. I

suspect that it is a standard 283 block, it is the engine number I really

would like decoded. The T63OD.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ref Stan who wants a title and the vin plate for a 57 Bel Air.

I will try to be gentle with my words, but what you are seeking is -
ILLEGAL, IMMORAL and just darn WRONG.

It is against the federal and state laws to switch VINS. There are
places where the VIN is stamped on the frame and if a state inspector
were to find the fraud you would be up the hill without a paddle, losing
your car and perhaps some cash to pay an attorney to keep you out of the
slammer.

In fact you don't have a car that was from the factory as the Bel Air
model. You can put all the scripts and emblems on it that you want but
it will always be a 150 with the Bel Air trim. Now there is nothing
wrong with putting Bel Air trim on a 150 but trying to title it as a Bel
Air is where you go wrong.

Ultimately the buyer of your car (at some time in the future) may be
getting a great car with a great history but it still won't be a Bel Air
as Chevy intended.

In my search for a Bel Air I found numerous wanna be's and the buyers
always were surprised that they weren't a Bel Air, so they were either
snookered too or were trying to do the two step shuffle.

I suggest you keep it as is and enjoy the car and the admiring glances,
after all only you have to know it came from a 150 body style.

Hi Bob-
I just read Tiffany's request for input on Antique Auto Insurance. Here's
my two cents worth: I've had J.C.Taylor Insurance on our two classic Chevys
and '48 Ford Woody for many years. The Woody probably goes back nearly 30
years with them! The insurance price is incredibly cheap, but it's
important to respect the limitations. The car must be garage kept, driven
under 2500 miles per year and primarily used for Club functions/Parades. As
you know, I recommend joining a Car Club for many reasons, but the
Insurance Companies really like that, and will ask you about it. If you get
into an accident, I have heard they will ask your neighbors if you drive
your classic to work frequently, so don't do that! Another sticking point
is modifications. I've been up front with them, describing the cars in
detail, and even included several photos of each car, with engine shots.
Especially shots that clearly show the license number. If you are honest
and explain your modifications, my experience is that they will eventually
insure the car. It might take an extra phone call or two, but if they
realize you are a legitimate hobbyist/collector, they'll will be very
helpful.

Another tip is to get an professional appraisal on your car. Take photos of
your car and keep them safely stored with the appraisal. If you lose your
car to theft or it gets damaged, they will only pay what it was worth at
the time of the accident. In other words, you can insure your '57 Chevy for
$100K, but if you can only PROVE it was worth $15K, then that is what
you'll get. To avoid that problem you'd have to get "Stated Value"
Insurance and I'm not sure which Companies do that.

I have heard of car owners collecting on their claims through J.C. Taylor,
so I do know that they pay when they have to.

The most important thing, of course, is to have a good driving record. That
will help you get the best rates on any kind of automotive insurance. So do
drive safely! -Jerry Mull L.A. Classic Chevy Club president

Hi Bob,
Thought the list members might like to check out a $1,000,000, (Yes, one
million dollars!), Chevy. It's listed for sale as a '56 Chevy, model
"misc." and it looks to me like a Vega station wagon! The site is
www.fossilcars.com Click the "SEARCH ADS" and take a look.
On a different note, I have a little financial advice for everyone on
the list who's not to old to take advantage of it. My ex father-in-law told
me, back in 1960, to put a little aside every week for myself. He suggested
10%. I did that for many years, although not always 10%. When I'd get a
little bit saved up I'd purchase stocks. Nothing but Blue Chip stocks.
Since I was in it for the long term I never panicked when the market fell.
By doing this I was able to retire 10 years before I was eligible for
Social Security, which will start for me in September. You have to make a
commitment to this, though. There were times when I would have liked to
taken the money for different things but I didn't. I'm really glad now that
I stuck with the program for over 30 years. What do you think of this
strategy, Bob? Wild Bill

Editor's note. Bill, I like that plan because I know it works. Equity
(stocks) usually rise in value over the long haul. If you start early in
your life, you will be very rich in your older years. However this plan
will not work for a lot of people for a very simple reason. They will not
commit a portion of their income every month. It is just impossible for
them to resist the temptation to buy the latest toy. It takes a very
strong person to not have to keep up with the Jones. And the Jones are
usually living on credit cards anyway.

One of the first things I tell my classes in financial planning is that if
you can not save something each and every month, you are wasting your time
in a financial planning class. You will never be financially independent.
