Yes, Chevy made (3) 2 door wagons in 1955. The Bel Air model was the Nomad.
The
210 model was called Handyman. The 150 model was also called a Handyman.
The
Handyman wagons were a different body from the Nomad. Handyman wagons had
doors
like a sedan rather than the "hardtop" style door of the Nomad. The Nomad
also
sloped mode in the read. The 210 had different interior and stainless trim
on
the body. I have a Handyman that can be seen at
http://www.fwb.gulf.net/~spies/sp01026.htm

I bought my interior from Ciedella in AZ. It wasn't listed but they had the
patterns to sew by and did a good job.

Just wanted to thank you again for all the hard work and effort you put
forth on this list on our behalf. Just curiously, do mind telling us how
many of us Tri-Five enthusiasts are included on your list? Just wondering
how many folks are benefiting from all your hard work?

On Sunday, August 19, 2001, the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica will have
classic
cars to compliment its classic aircraft as it plays host to a car show
featuring exclusively
1955-56-57 Chevys. The L.A. Classic Chevy Club has once again selected the
Museum

The Show will run from 10:00AM-3:00PM at the Museum of Flying and will
feature some
of the best Chevrolet cars, trucks, Nomads and Corvettes from 1955-56-57.
There will be
awards for the best original and modified vehicles (ALL models including
trucks, Sport Coupes,

a separate special

Entrant's Choice.
Show car set-up will start at 9AM. All vehicles must be in place by 10AM.

Public Invited! All visitors to the museum on that day will not only see
the Museum's excellent
exhibits of vintage aircraft and memorabilia, but will also be able to see
the car show.

Persons entering their cars in the show will receive two FREE admissions to
the
Museum, FREE rides on the simulator and have an opportunity to have their
car
photographed next to a World War II airplane after the Show (most likely a
P51 Mustang!).
The entry fee is $20 prior to August 1st. After that date and day of Show,
the fee
will be $25. Space subject to availability. Last year the Show was full at
68 vehicles!
The Museum of Flying is located on the north side of the Santa Monica
Airport at 2772
Donald Douglas Loop North (near 28th and Ocean Park). Persons interested

http://www.laccc.com.
Car Show applications are available to download at the LACCC website.
For information on the Museum of Flying, please go to the museum's site at

We are proud to announce that our official Charity this year will be MADD
of Los Angeles.
A major portion of our proceedings will go to MADD to support the good
volunteer work
they do here in L.A. County.

We hope you will be there at the Show! As it was last year, it will be a
unique one! Please invite
all your friends and family to join us there. We have invited KABC TV to be
there as well as
Leon Kaplan of KABC radio. By the way, bring your picnic lunch, as we'll
have picnic tables
under the wings of a vintage DC-3! Very cool!

Sandra Scott, The alignment specs. are different with radial tires. It
requires more negative camber, which in more layman terms means, the upper

ball joint would be aligned farther back creating a pushing affect on your
tires. Sometimes it's hard to get enough negative camber with the original
upper a/frames. Tubular uppers are a good idea, unless your are staying
original. Rod......

i suppose one way of looking at this is that a 210 is like a caterpillar -
waiting to be transformed into a butterfly of a belair! ;)

actually it's mainly some cosmetic trim that makes a belair.

Hi Bob,

This is in addition to Jerry Mull's post regarding Tiffany's question about
Antique Auto Insurance.
He was strongly supportive of J.C. Taylor, and so am I. They have a
webpage
at http://www.jctaylor.com/. On it are links to both the "Classic"
insurance they offer and their "Modified" insurance. In both cases they
ask
for pictures and appraisals. They "request" that you keep your driving to
under 2500 miles annually, for Classics, and under 3500 miles, for Modified
cars. Also, in both cases they don't want the car to be your daily driver.
Go to the link above and select the type of car you want to insure (Classic
or Modified). Then look at the top of the page for further links. Choose
"Eligibility". Then you'll be able to see the company's requirements for
whichever type of coverage you want.

When you send in an appraisal of the car it will establish the fair market
value, if the car is valued at over $20,000. I did that on mine to
establish the "Amount of Insurance" that is listed on the policy's
Declarations Page. I think that's what Jerry was referring to as "agreed
value" in his posting. You can ask J.C. Taylor directly, to be sure.
Their
toll-free number is listed on the website. Liability coverage is set
separately, depending on what coverage you want.

They are a good company and DO pay their claims promptly and fairly.

Hope this helps.

Bob,

Thanks again as always for this remarkable service.

Earlier in the week I had one of the carrier bearings go out in the 3.55
rear
end on my little Palomino (1955 210, 6 cylinder Powerglide). I spent the
better part of yesterday replacing it with another off of a '56. I noticed
a
distinction between the two when I had them both out.

On the one I took off (I do not think it is the original) there were no
numbers stamped on the outer portion of the ring gear, while the new one I
installed indicated that it was built in '56.

The serial number of the one I took off of the car is 3707808 GM 7. I
doubt
seriously if this is the original rear end but would like to know if there
is
some way to identify what year it was produced?

I may completely rebuild the one that was on the car (new bearings, crush
sleeve, shims, etc.) and reinstall it on my car. Then I was thinking of
rebuilding the other one and selling it (I bought it for $75 from a friend
here locally so I got a hell of a deal).

My question is if there is a market for these things? I understand they
made
a gozillion of them from the early 1950s until about 1964 but that they are

starting to get hard to find. I can tell you that the little copper
washers
which are used on the bolts pressed into the pumpkin are impossible to find

around here.

There are a couple of different garage mechanics in the area who rebuild
these differentials for a reasonable price. If I try to sell one what is
the
going rate?

To Mark Bach concerning swapping VIN plates and titles. Really this isn't
so
wrong. It's just like giving a car a another body, as long as it is the
same
style, model, etc. If someone has un untitled car and someone else has a
title and VIN for a car that no longer exists, why not affix the title and
VIN to the untitled car? You can even fix the VIN # on the frame so that
the
government can never know anything happened. What about people, like me
who
have swapped frames? Now my frame has a non-matching VIN #. You can
hardly
see the number in the first place. Make sure you install the VIN plate to
look like a factory job.

Yes, Chevrolet did produce a 210 two station wagon in 1955. It was called
the Ahnyman. They also had a 150 series Handyman. I don't know if they
reproduce these interiors or not, but they were all vinyl, using colored
(gree, blue, or tan) pleated vinyl and light green or ivory plain vinyl.

Yes, indeed, they made a 2-door 210 wagon and a 2-door 150 wagon. They
both were called "Handyman". The 4-door 210 was called a "Townsman".
The only 2-door Bel Air was the Nomad.

Greetings again from Nashville, TN, Bob,

It's been a while since I've written you but I read the "List" each week.
Since it's getting that time of year when clubs and cruises are starting to

take place (or at least be planned), I thought I'd drop you another line.

Ironically, I've had several folks contact me who either read your weekly
report or they scan the various online boards and Chevy related sites. I've

gotten some nice e-mails from Debra in East Tennessee and Elmo in Oregon.
Debra and her husband just opened a 'classic car' showroom and restoration
facility near Knoxville and Elmo has a great looking '55 that is for sale.
It's a Bel Air post and it looks pretty nice inside and out. Elmo and I
have
been trying to work out a trade of some sort for my '48 Buick but have been

unable to come up with the exact terms. Whether or not we can make a trade
remains to be seen, but regardless, it's nice to know folks out there like
Elmo who really love their Chevys.

I'm still open to trading my '48 'black plate' California car for a
Tri-Five
Chevy, regardless of model, but not a 'project' car. I'm not a mechanic,
nor
bodyshop man. As I've stated in your newsletter before, if I can work out a

trade with one of your readers, I'll 'toss in' a rare, vintage Beach Boys
poster from one of my early 60s concerts. It, in itself, is worth about
$2,500.00!

Looking forward to meeting some of you folks at upcoming events this
summer.
Have a great one! Roll those windows down, crank up the CD or cassette
player
and have some fun, fun, fun!

Regards,

Fred Vail
Nashville, TN

PS Regards to Keith Marang who took pity on my efforts to trade for a
Tri-Five and added a little note to his outstanding Oklahoma City Chevy
Club
website! Keep 'em flying, Keith!

Jim, I have heard of all kinds of modifications that you must do to the
spout on the PS pump reservoir, cutting and welding, etc., it's a lot of
work and very hard to make it look good.

I have approached it from an entirely different angle. I redesigned the
generator bracket and adjusting arm enough to move the whole
generator/pump assembly to a different location. It's a tight fit when
checking the PS fluid but you can check the fluid OK. Adding fluid
involves the use of a funnel. The bracket set is $59 plus shipping.

Jim,
Regarding your question on a power brake booster set up to work with
original power steering: We have whats called an "angled booster".
When mounted to the firewall it angles upward so as to give the
additional clearance needed for your power steering. It comes with a
dual master cylinder. We also have a prebent line kit specifically
made to accommodate this set up as well as a proportioning valve and
mounting bracket. All this makes for an easy no guess installation.
