I thought I would pass along an interesting experience I had recently. I
went to an ATM to withdraw some cash. Much to my surprise, I had a bank
account balance of $1.27. Needless to say, I didn't get any cash from the
ATM. The next morning I went to my bank to try to find out where the
$7000+ I had in the bank 2 days before had gone. I had only written 1
check and that was for $700. Lucy for me I kept a copy of that check.

After a lot of record checking by my bank, this is what I found out had
happened to me. It seems that when someone takes a check to deposit in
their bank, the bank prints the amount of the check on the bottom right
side of the check. Look at your canceled checks. This amount is printed
is readable by a machine. In my case, the check was for $700 and the amount
printed on the check by the bank that received the check was $7000. When
the check was returned to my bank, my banks machine read the printed $7000
and deducted it from my account. It does not matter that the check was
only for $700. No human at my bank ever saw the check.

What a mess to get my $6300 back. My bank said it was not their fault as
they did not code the wrong amount on the check.

I wrote in about a month ago asking if there was anything going on in
San Antonio, Tx during the week of July 14 -21. I only got one
response. There must be some kind of an old car happening in the area.
A special interest auto dealer, museum, cruise night, anything????
With the thousands of you reading Bob's newsletter, I was hoping for a
greater response. Who knows, maybe San Antonio is really that
uninteresting.
Thanks for any input.

Dear Bob, thanks for your list and we enjoy it immensely. Recently I put a
rebuilt speedometer in my '57 Nomad, to my surprise the speedometer worked,
but the odometer didn't. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Thanks, Rick

Editor's note. Rick if the speedometer is working, that means that the
cable from the tranny is OK. It
almost has to be the odometer that is bad.

Dear Sir,

I do not have one in stock, but I do have a black 57 frame off in
consignment waiting. The owner wants to me to sell/trade it for a 1956
Belair blue/white combo car.

This car needs nothing is perfect and correct all the way through. It is
always garaged never driven in bad weather and only used for Sunday drives
or taken to shows.

Have highly detailed photos and the papers are with the car the asking
price is in the upper $30,000.00 range, but the owner may negotiate. There
are (2) exterior photos attached to this e-mail the photos are large files
so if you are interested I will send the others separately.

Belair trim- inside and out and the Canadian owner claims it is a 150.

Regarding the overheating: What temperature do you consider hot? If your
ignition timing is retarded this will cause overheating. A vacuum leak will
also. And sometimes people think they are overheating when in fact they're
just overfilling the radiator, not leaving room for expansion. 200-210
degrees is not really hot. Water doesn't boil until 212 degrees,
non-pressurized. Boiling point raises with antifreeze and every pound of
pressure you create with your radiator cap. I have seen a case where a
person literally exploded his cooling system because somebody had sold him
a
late model water pump, left hand turn. This also applys to fans - there are
left and right directional turns on them. Just some more food for thought.

Bob: saw this in Sunday PlainDealer, local newspaper here in Cleveland,

I gather it's not cheap but business is thriving according to the
article. The web site might be neat to visit anyhow.

Bob, Gary White asked about thermostats, here is what little I know about
heat exchange.
Gary, To answer your question about thermostats, Yes 160 degree thermostat
will let you 283 run cooler. The reason for the
thermostat is to regulate the temperature of the engine. Once the engine
has
produced (warmed up) enough heat to cause the coolant to reach the degree
setting of the thermostat it opens up
to let the coolant into the radiator. The coolant in the radiator then
moves into the engine, the thermostat then closes completing a cycle. The
main reason for different degree settings is where you live. In a warmer
climate you need a cooler setting and in a colder climate you need a warmer
one.
One thing to remember is the warmer you run the engine the cleaner it
burns
the fuel. That's one of the reasons new cars run so hot.
I hope this helps you out.

JERRY, HOW ABOUT YOUR PRICE ?????? Richard

Richard, since prices vary depending upon which clock you have (there
were 3 different brands offered in the 55-57 Chevys), you will need to
know which clock you have. Go to www.clockwks.com and click on the "55-57
