At this time we are not able to compile lists of the individual items.
Most parts are American and range from engines, shortblocks, NORS fuel
pumps/kits carbs,generator/starter cores,sunvisors,and some water pumps
new/rebuilt/cores. we also have about 25 old radios some with dash cable
type controls used before radio were available as an option. Most are 40 to
50's.
We are ultimately seeking a buyer for the lot which is going to be at
least a semitruck load. All parts are located in central Alabama. ---

I have 2 questions I hope your list members can help me with.

I have a 57 with a standard 283 motor in it. I know of a wrecked 57 with
fuel injection on it. The fuel injection was working when the car was
wrecked. What do I need to remove from the wrecked 57 to put fuel
injection on my car? Is it just a matter of taking off the intake manifold
and fuel injection and putting them on my car? How about the fuel pump?

Also, about a year ago I say an ad for the car the Car and Parts rebuilt
in their book "Peggy Sue, 1957 Chevy Restoration" for sale for about
$80,000. Does anyone know if that car sold for that amount and where it is
now?

thanks for your help

Hi Bob and tri five chevy lovers and thanks for the great list Bob.

I write to simply say that our thoughts are with you all and our deepest
sympathies go to those who lost loved ones in NY and at the Pentagon on
Tuesday. We were horrified by the reporting and vision of the events of
that day and hope that we will all unite to put an end to these terrible
acts of evil.

Bob, question for the members,
Just installed a crate 350/330 HP into our 56, 210. It's been mounted with
side mounts and moved ¾ inch forward. The HEI distributor clears the
firewall. Headers from Southern Rods clears the 605 but, the pitman arm
hits also, the passenger side hits as well. Anyone, have this problem? I
called Southern Rods and they said to grind down the pitman arm. Any
problems with this?

Also, the engine came with a long-necked water pump. I'm hoping to keep
the
radiator in the stock, V8 position. Will swapping to a short water pump,
with serpentine belts, provide enough space?

Thanks, Bob!

I converted my 56 to a disc set up a couple years ago. I purchased all the
parts a piece at a time and did the whole thing in one weekend. Here is
what I did.
I purchased a disc caliper adapter bracket from CCI, made a template and
went to the junk yard where I found some good condition 77 Olds Cutlass
calipers and near new pads. I purchased new rotors, bearings and hoses
from Kragen on-line. I already had a dual master cylinder and valve from a
73 Nova ( replaced it later with a 75 vette MC and valve to make it work
better) Had the front end re-aligned as the adapter pushes the wheels out.
I like the larger calipers the adapter gives you, but I had to grind off
some steering knuckle material to get the turning radius back.
If I had to do it again, I would opt for new spindles already made for
disc brakes.

Good luck

Hi Bob, we will not be having our early October "All Chevy Show" at
Guaranty Chevrolet in Santa Ana, CA this year. As you know, we had
terrific shows (200+ Chevys) in '98, '99, and '00 but this year I can't do
it and no other club member is eager to take over. Instead, I am managing
an electronics trade show at Orange County Fairgrounds this week, September
12 & 13. You and anyone interested in the manufacture of products with
electronics inside is welcome to attend. At-show registration is quick,
easy and free. Besides 250 exhibit booths, there are seven free technical
seminars presented by industry experts. Complete info is at www.ocee.net
From 55 south, exit at Fair Drive, turn into the lot and drive forward
until you see our OCEE signs.

Please see us there. I'm the guy in the orange shirt. No, I won't be
driving my '55 Cameo.

Well I guess I must have a natural !

My 11 yr. old son and I replaced the manual choke cable on an old
Renault. The left over cable innerd with knob some how seemed to be of
value to my son so I said "sure you can keep it, just don't poke out your
eye with it"

About a week later we were started up on the 56 resto (again) by
removing the interior door panels. Before we could remove the handles I
explained to him how the spring clips held on the handles and that we had
to
get the clips off first. I asked him how he might achieve such a task
since
needle nose pliers wouldn't be able to reach that far and still be spread
apart enough to get a grip on the clips. He stewed over the task for a bit
and a light bulb went off as he ran off saying "I know... I know... "

He came back with the choke cable, a pair of wire cutters, and a
pair of pliers. He cut the choke cable off to a total length of about 8
inches, so that he had the handle, the stiff shaft and about 3" of the
wire.
He bent a small hook in the end of the wire part of the cable and said
"here
ya go Dad." I told him he would have to show me how it worked so he did.
He went in sideways on the inner side of the handle, twisted it and hooked
the clip, gave it a pull and damned if he didn't pull it out on the first
try.

What could I say??? I got a cold coke and a beer out of the
fridge in the garage and asked him what he thought of the stock market. ;-)

This resto is going to be really be enlightening.

Cheers to all you father/son projects out there.

In response to Tim Scmidt and the Nomad tailgate: I have an article on
straightening the Nomad tailgate from a 1997 Special Edition of Chevy
Classics magazine. Jerry Cabunoc of Santa Ana, CA did the work. It's a 3
page article with B & W photos. I can scan it and try to send it to anyone

who's interested.

In response to the disk brake conversions: I downloaded this a couple of
years ago and have since forgotten where I found it.

"Tech Tips - By Bill

May

Take a set of spindles from a '68-'72 Chevelle, Monte Carlo, or Grand Prix,

swap sides and bolt to the stock a-arms of a '55-'57 Chevy and you have
easy
disc brakes

Find a '75 Monza and borrow it's power brake booster as it will bolt right
in
to your shoe box without modification.

A Saginaw steering box from a '75 International Harvester truck will bolt
right up to your '55-'57 and can be had for a fraction of the normal price.

A Chevelle 12-bolt rear end can be adapted to fit Tri-5's by welding on
Moroso spring plates.

You can also use a Chevelle trans cross member on a tri-5 by trimming the
ends to fit the frame rails. Then flatten the ends and drill new mounting
holes."

I have also heard that the master cylinder from an S-10 pickup will bolt
onto the Shoeboxes. I haven't tried it, so I can't confirm if it works or
not.

Bob,

What nerve to correct the man who puts so much time into this
list. There were four models in 57 but the Nomad was a Bel Air
2dr Station Wagon. The forth model was Corvette.
How much chance do I have finding someone in the mid-Atlantic
coast region with a couple of good fenders? These are not priced
too high on the on-line auctions but the shipping is high.

Thanks a bunch Bob,

Hi Bob,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!\

Regarding your question about videotape and kinescope recordings.....

Video recording first introduced to television stations by Ampex in
November of 1956. The first taped show was a time delay of the (15 minute)
Douglas Edwards news on C.B.S. Most of the local stations couldn't afford
the machines then, but the networks had them and used them to make timezone
delays of their shows; all of which originated from New York. In the early
days of television almost all prime time programming was done "live". The
West Coast didn't even have the coaxial cable feed from any of the networks
then, so everything seen on network stations out here was delivered on
kinescope, usually about a week later than the original broadcast. By
about 1952 the coax made it to the Left Coast, so many shows were seen with
decent quality for the first time. Videotape changed all of that, though.

Those first videotape machines were only black and white. As time went on
several local stations got the machines, too. A significant number of them
had the capability by about 1960, or so. Color recording was a reality by
mid 1958 but, again, only the networks (make that read "N.B.C.") had them
then. Before tape, though, there was a process called "kinescope
recording", and was the ONLY way to make a recording of a television show.
A "kinescope" is, simply, the picture tube of your TV. There was a large
machine called a "kinescope recorder" that contained a high-resolution
television monitor, with a very flat screen, and a motion picture camera
securely mounted across from it. Most were 16 millimeter, but there WERE
some 35 millimeter kinescopes made of really significant shows. They were
a lot sharper, but still didn't look like the original. Videotape made a
big difference! I'm sure that you've seen a kinescope recording on one of
those retrospective shows that come on every so often. If you wondered why
the thing looked so awful and soft-focused. . . it was a kinescope!

Hope that helps.

Don Kent
Northridge, CA
'57 2dr. H.T.

Editor's note. Thanks for the info Don. If I remember correctly, in the
early days of TV (am I showing my age?) some shows were done twice. Once
for the East Coast time zone and once for the West Coast.

it on Ebay, but can no longer use it. I will sell it for $65.00 +

think only Mike Love of the original Beach Boys is still performing with

are only 3 of the original group alive.
