REMEMBER....

When the worst thing you could do at school was smoke in the bathrooms,
flunk a test or chew gum. And the banquets were in the cafeteria and we
danced to a juke box later, and all the girls wore fluffy pastel gowns and
the boys wore suits for the first time and we were allowed to stay out till
12 p.m.

When a '57 Chevy was everyone's dream car. . . to cruise, peel out, lay
rubber and watch drag races, and people went steady and girls wore a class
ring with an inch of wrapped dental floss or yarn coated with pastel frost
nail polish so it would fit her finger.

And no one ever asked where the car keys were 'cause they were always in
the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked. And you got in
big trouble if you accidentally locked the doors at home, since no one ever
had a key.

Remember lying on your back on the grass with your friends and saying
things like "That cloud looks like a..."

And playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the
game. Back then, baseball was not a psychological group learning
experience-it was a game.

Remember when stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic
seals 'cause no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger.

And...with all our progress...don't you just wish...just once...you could
slip back in time and savor the slower pace...and share it with the
children of the 80's and 90's ......

So send this on to someone who can still remember Nancy Drew, The Hardy
Boys, Laurel & Hardy, Howdy Doody and The Peanut Gallery, The Lone Ranger,
The Shadow Knows, Nellie Belle, Roy and Dale, Trigger and Buttermilk as
well as the sound of a real mower on Saturday morning, and summers filled
with bike rides, playing in cowboy land, baseball games, bowling and visits
to the pool...and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar.

When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate
that awaited a misbehaving student at home.

Basically, we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive by
shootings,drugs, gangs,etc.

Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we all
survived because their love was greater than the threat.

Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember that!

And was it really that long ago?

Bob,

I guess you have not sent out a list since I sent you an appeal for some
off-set upper inner control rod shafts in my previous message (my mail box
has been a nightmare recently).

I am looking for a pair of those shafts which increase negative camber by
an
additional 1/2 of a degree. I also understand that they made offset
bushings
to solve the same problem -- namely, sagging front suspensions.

If anyone along the list has some of these I would really appreciate them
shooting me a price.

Hi, Rick Nix here. New member! I'm restoring a '57 Nomad and was
wondering what process folks use to clean and polish the large aluminum
side panels on the rear corners of the '57? Mine are in basically good
shape but have minor scratches and they definitely need polishing. Any
guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick

For the list...

For Lenny & Dana Schaeffer...

I too was lucky to have my Austalian Friends Graeme and Ann visit me in
Florida. They stayed with me for 4 days and I gave them the grand tour of
Central Florida. I "met" Graeme through Bob Ford's list over 2 years ago
and we have been great e-mail friends ever since. We finally met in person
this week. They told me of the great friends they met while in New England
and the beautiful cars they saw at the show. You are right.... they are
both
wonderful people who love American Classic Cars. We are already planning
their next visit to the USA!!!!! Thanks Bob... you have unknowingly made
many people happy and brought together people who would have never known
each other had it not been for your support of the 55-57 list.

I have in stock now the 55-56-57 polished stainless hood springs at 60.00
a
pair. I had these made a little stronger than original specs.

For you drag racers and fans the Halloween Classic in Boise, Idaho is
October 16-19. At Firebird Raceway. This event last year had 537 drag race
cars and a lot of shoeboxes. It is one the most enjoyable races I attend
each
year. Make it a point to attend, Fun for the whole family. Saturday night
the
children go trick or treating in the pits. It is a blast for the drag racer

or the fan.

Dear Bob and tri-fivers,

I have a problem with the hood (bonnet) hinges. They have been lubricated
(WD40) and now the bonnet won't stay up. Solutions given to me are:

None!
New hinges
stronger springs
broomstick

The hinges on there are chromed (as are the springs) - really don't want
to take them off, Thought some clever individual out there might be able to

help with a simple solution.

It looks like I am finally gonna get a computer rather than my web, so
if someone can give me that data so I can buy the disc, please do it.

I do not know much about fuel injection except that the fuel lines from

The best and safest way is tp have the car appraised by a liensed state
auto appraiser that specializes in classic autos.

I am in MA and do this for many of my fellow hobbyists.

You may want to ask around at local shows- it is your best bet to know what
it is worth -especially if you are thinking of selling the car, you will
have PAPER evidence of value.

Converted my 57 to power disc brakes. I have Chevelle (I think 68) rims on
the front. Welded I guess what you'd call "nubs"onto the inner rim to
duplicate the 57 rim. Full hubcaps fit well and don't fly off... my problem

is this: After I put hubcap on correctly, in a short time the hubcap
rotates
on the rim and bends the valve stem. Sometime ago I read a tip to put some
silicone sealer on the wheel. I tried that and consequently,my show quality

spinner hubcap came off in traffic-I was run over by two or three cars! Any

proven remedies form the tri-five Think Tanks out there? Thanks. Frank

Hello Bob and Everyone Else,

I have a question that is getting me some odd looks when I ask. Soon I plan
to install new motor and transmission mounts on my 57 frame. How do you
know where the engine is suppose to welded in at. If you set the motor and
trans on the frame with the mounts installed on the motor, do they fit the
frame at the correct spot? The body is pulled from the frame.
I would like to thank everyone who has answered questions for me in the
past. Their answers have changed my plans several times.

Thanks to the many list members who sent me a birthday card. At my age
now, "no more birthdays".

If you are not interested in the 50's you probably want to skip what is
next.

I went to see the Beach Boys in Anaheim Sunday. I went with my 30's
something year old sons. I had bet them that there would be a lot of
teenagers at that concert. My sons both told me that I was sure out of
touch as no teenagers would go to see a music concert with 60 years old
guys singing 50s music.

Were they ever wrong. There were a lot of teenagers there. They
completely filled the aisles dancing to "Help Me Ronda", "409", "Daddy took
the T Bird Away", and many more. An interesting sidelight is they had
some old guy join them on some of their songs that nobody in the audience
knew he was. He seems to really get into the "Beach" songs. I think it
was "Dean" from Jan and Dean. Anyone remember them? I think Jan was badly
hurt in a car wreck years ago. I don't know if he is still alive or not.
Does anyone know?

My sons who had never heard the Beach Boys music before, come away from
the concert liking the music that they would never have heard if I had not
paid their way to the concert.
