Hi Bob,

You asked about Dino Frochetti. Actually, his name was Dino Paul Crocetti.
He had been an amateur welterweight boxer during the depression, under the
name "Kid Crochet". He started singing in 1934. Later, a band leader in
Cleveland convinced him to change his name to Dean Martin. That was in
1940. Good thought!

Editor's note. My eyes know the difference between a C and an F but my
fingers didn't. I blew it. Don is right. The correct name should have
been Crocetti.

Hey Bob!
Thanks for the lesson(s) in ac electricity!
That's just one of the items in the list that make it so unique!

On a different subject... Anyone else out there ever put a 409 into their
Tri-Five Chevy? Put a '62 09'er with the dual AFB's into my 55 Hardtop
waaaaaaaaay back in
1971. What a screamer! With all the big blocks floating around, the old
W-Series
motor is probably just a fond memory, huh? Would only do it again for
nostalgia, not
efficiency.

Would Dino Frochetti be Dean Martin?

Thanks Bob!

Hi, Charlie, I can give you one off the top of my head, a REAL
oldie...called " '57 Chevrolet " by Billie Jo Spears, sung sometime in the

early '70s, a Country song. There's another recent ( last 6 months )
country
song that mentions a '55 Chevy, but I don't remember the title. There's
also
a woman singing about a '57 Chevy, some type of alternative music from the
'80s, I have the CDs somewhere, but will have to dig them out. Here's some
links to songs with Chevies in them:

Love the list. Besides the good trifive info, I get info on everything
form electrical engineering to
show business. Bob, you must have a wide variety of interests. About a
year ago, you had a short comment about Cryonics. I bet you and I are the
only people on your list that know what that is about. As you know it is a
very obscure and controversial subject. There is an article on it in the
current issue of Scientific American. Did you read it?

Judy

Editor's note. Glad you enjoy the list Judy. Yes, I read the article. I
am a strong believer in Cryonics and I am signed up for it but I can not
discuss it on this public list as I don't want to offend anyone. I will be
happy to discuss it with you or anyone else by private e-mail. There are
some subjects that most people just don't want to discuss and this is one
of them.

Well, my recommendation would be to spray both hinges with starting fluid

to flush out all the lubrication, which will help dry out the hinges too.
I've heard many times that people who "lubricate" their hinges regret it
ever
after! LOL. Then maybe just a dab of thick grease in the groove where they
slide across each other, but just a tiny bit. Good luck with it, hope your
noggin' don't get a floggin' !

pictures, it's basically ALL pictures, called their family album. In it are

some nice older pics of them growing up, and some of their cars and the
cars
around them. I've scanned several including two with a '56 and a '57 Chevy
showing. If anyone wants a Download of these pictures ( all black and

Hi, Dwayne, there is a book out by the Editors of Consumer Reports, about
15-20 years old, about the Tri-chevies, and they had a listing of all the
different interior colors and combos in there, in color. The book is called

Chevrolet 1955-1957 on the cover, ISBN 1-56173-311-3 ( published 1993 )
In the Chevrolet '57 Restorer's Technical Guide ( published 1990 ) they
break down the interior and exterior colors in charts, but no color pages.

ISBN 0-87938-394-1 .The ConsumerGuide book on Chevrolet has their interior
samples in color and pattern as well. So if you got both books, they'd be
all
you'd need to really see and read what the possible combos are. The last
book
is by Motorbooks International, and should still be available, I've seen it

at the big swap meets at literature vendors anyway. So, theres my input,
hope
it helps!

Bob, I think the boxer in your trivia question changed his name to Dean
Martin. I think he had a #1 hit that knocked the Beatles off the top of the

charts. Was it "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometimes"? I would like to
contribute a 57 Chevy song, also. Joni Mitchell from the album The Hissing
of
Summer Lawns, Raised on Robbery. She incorrectly sings "He drove a '57
Biscayne...." of course the Biscayne was not introduced yet. Perhaps this
could be dismissed as artistic license. Nick

Hi Bob and Tri-Fivers,
I can't start this without a big "Thanks," as
always, for the list. I just hope we never take you
and your devotion for granted.
Have been away from the list for awhile as we
decided to leave New Mexico and take a trip to
California. Hadn't been there in years. We went thru
Bakersfield (where I had bought one of my Sedan
Deliveries in 1989), Sacramento, Ventura, Victorville,
and back. My question is this: WHERE DID ALL THE
CLASSIC CARS GO???? I was really anticipating a feast
of "eye candy" and hardly saw a thing! Are all the
classics turning into "trailer queens" that only come
out for a show? My attitude is: If I can't drive
'em, I don't want 'em.
I enjoyed Fred Vail's story of Route 66. I do
remember the "Twin Arrows" outside of Flagstaff, AZ as
I was stranded there right before they closed when a
454 exploded (hence my distain for Big Blocks). I do
think Fred missed one important stretch. "If you ever
plan to motor West..." be sure to get off I-40 in
Holbrook, AZ so that you can see the old "Wigwam"
motel. They keep classic cars in front of each
"Tee-Pee" and it looks just like I rembember it in the
'50's when my family stayed there.
Lastly, have some 55-59 Suburban Parts For Sale,
including a very good set of rear barn doors and a
body shell. Thanks again, -Delivery Dale

i painted the back of my bumper with silver/aluminum paint. it's used to
paint radiators in older buildings. por 15 is also good but also any
epoxy paint would work great. undercoat is not such a good idea.

by the way how much did you pay for the bumper?

Hi Bob and all Tri-Fivers,
I've got an annoying problem with my 1955 Nomad (265 V8) that perhaps
some member can shed some light on. I have a horrible "squealing" sound
that
is coming from the bottom front of my motor. At first I thought it was a
slipping fan belt or bad generator bearings but upon closer examination
eliminated both of those things. The "noise" seems to be coming from the
lower timing chain cover, in back of the pully where the crank comes
through
the cover. If I spray some WD-40 in that area it seems to go away for a
short period of time but after driving around for awhile, the noise comes
back.
Has any member experienced this before or can any member offer any
suggestions to fix this??? Thanks, Pete Cap caps4@aol.com

Editor's note. Pete, it sounds like the oil seal in the timing chain cover
has dried out.

Bob

Please put this out on your list. I think your list members should know
this.

Fellow list members, if you think Bob's list is good, you should go to one
of his classes. They
were terrific. Bob gave a class on financial planning where I work as
part of the employee
education service provided by my company. They had scheduled the class
from 5 to 7 PM. The
class lasted to after 10PM because of all of the questions we had. I never
learned as much in such
a short time in my life. After the class, you gave everyone your phone
number and invited them to
call you with any further questions. What a class act. My only question
is why you never
mentioned TriFive Chevys in the class? They are the love of my life and I
would have loved to
talk about them but I doubt other people in the class would even know what
a TriFive is.

I had always thought that as a single woman with no education about money,
I would never have
a chance to become financially independent. Your inspiring life story
showed me I was wrong.
It really made sense to me when you said "If you think education is
expensive, try ignorance for a
while".

Mandy Willis

Editor's note. Hi Mandy. I remember you from that class.

Hi Bob and Y'all,
Two questions:
I gotta '57 grill fom a Buick that I'd like to stick in the front of my '57
210, someone told me it's a bolt on, no big deal. Anybody out there done
it? Is there any cutting involved?
Second question; while washing the old rod I sprayed on that foaming tire
cleaner then noticed how cool the white top looked with big whitewalls. I
checked whitewalltires.com and they had some 225/70R14 radials, the
whitewall was only 2 1/2 inches wide and the tires are about $160 each,
Coker is about the same. I drive my car hard and fast so need performance
and that size tire seems to work great. I would like a good radial and at
least 4" whitewalls. I've seen those add-on whitewalls, Porterwalls I think
their called but don't know how well they would do. Someone even suggested
tire paint... Anybody out there got some ideas. A goofy pal of mine has a
bunch of Edsels, he took his radials down and had the sidewalls shaved to
expose a large whitewall. Others have said this would seriously weaken the
sidewall, true? Any tire engineers out there? Might some radials be better
for such an operation? Thanks gang, you guys are a great resource of
information!
