Hay Bob and Everybody,
I have a question concerning wheels for my 57. I now have 14 inch wheels
with the standard bolt pattern. I would like to go to at least 16" or
bigger wheels, 17" to 18" would be most desired. I plan to use the Moon
Disk wheel covers. So a basic factory wheel would work just fine, my
question is does any one know of a large wheel I could use that would fit
the stock bolt pattern of my 57? Has GM made a 17" or 18" wheel that I
could pick up at the salvage yard? Any help would be appreciated. And
thanks again Bob for all you do!

For those interested in the El Moroccos, I found a pictures on the
net. A 57 can be seen at
http://pages.prodigy.net/mopar-man/_import/pages.prodigy.net/mopar-man/inde
x
18.html.

Similar lines (in the rear quarter panel) to the Eldorodo cadilac
(take a look at the bottom of this page
http://www.car-nection.com/yann/dbas_txt/brg_prea.htm in addition to the
eldorodo the last pic looks like either a 55 or 56 conversion )

Hi Bob,

It's been a while since I contributed to the list but I have been very
busy!! I have a request to post this message even though I am inquiring
about parts that are traditionally out of the focus of the list. I am
looking for front fenders for a 58 Chev. I can't seem to find them
around here, so if there is anyone out there that have some decent
fenders (I need both) they can email me and maybe even send some
pictures of them, (if they have them).

Thanks,
Marc Mazerolle

Hi Bob, Great way of getting out 5,6,7 info.

I am an ameture restorer of these tri 5 Chevies and just tried something
that
worked very well on a 56 two door hardtop that I am restoring. The black
'slash' area of the stainless paint divider (below the rear side window)
had
factory black paint sprayed in the lowered portion of this piece. Most
guys
around here either don't do anything or try and brush black into the area.
I
took the polished stainless pieces to the local sign shop and had them cut
sign
vinyl in the inserts. Turned out really well and now it looks original and
"clean". I am aware that this might be an old trick for some, but it
wasn't
for me!

Is that the same "Singing Brakeman" Jimmy Rodgers? Born in Meridian,
Mississippi?
if it is, I never heard what happened to his voice... I really liked the
way
this guy sang.
Wayne McGinnis
wmcginnis@usa.norgren.com

Editor's note. I will let Fred Vail tell me if I am wrong but I don't
think this is the same Jimmie Rogers.
The one I was referring to is still alive. I think Jimmy Rogers the
Singing Brakeman has been dead for several years. I saw an ad for Jimmie
Rogers' show at Branson recently. I hope he has recovered his voice.

Bob and list members,
Bob, as always, THANKS!!!! What a great place to
go for a mix of car-topics and trivia.
On the subject of "after market" grilles: My
first '57 Sedan Delivery had a '57 Buick grille and I
loved it. I mounted small amber turn signals behind
it and man did it look cool, especially at night, when
the signals flashed, lighting up the grille fins!
My wife says I have motor oil in my veins since I
was born in Detroit and spent my formative years in
Southern California. I do remember those old radio
stations and their formats. This discussion jogged
this old memory: Did anyone else out there listen to
them late at night in bed, when you were supposed to
be asleep, on one of those little "crystal" radios?
They required no electricity as you just clipped a
wire to a good ground and they would power (only) an
earphone. I even remember building one as a 4-H
project.
Not too much under the hood of a Tri-Five
intimidates me, but the wife's washer is starting to
make obnoxious noises; and the idea of working on that
thing scares the heck out me! Any suggestions?
Best wishes to all, -Delivery Dale, Reserve, NM

Editor's note. I don't know about service calls for appliances in your
area but in Southern Calif.
a service call to fix a washer can cost almost as a new washer. If your
washer is over 6 years old, you might consider donating it to a charity and
getting a new one.

list have you been to the garage in orange at
katella an main we have over 40 street rods
an classic cars for sale stop and see our show room 714 532290
thank you gary k

Editor's note. Gary, you have an impressive show room. I have been there
and urge anyone in the area to stop by for a visit. Also almost next door
to you is great Mexican food. Where you are located was at one time a
drive in movie. All of us old guys can recall what we did at a drive in
movie. Perhaps for our kids sake it is a good thing that they are few and
far between in Southern Calif now.

hello Bob...as always, a huge thanks for your wonderful
work...as long as folks seem to be in the mood for
radio nostalgia, I would like to give a tip of the
Bob-Ford-list-cap to the memory of the late great
Wolfman Jack.
We own a cabin near Lake Tahoe in the
Sierra Nevada mountains and many is the late nite hour
I have spent in that cabin listening to The Wolfman
broadcasting from his offshore pirate station near
Mexico or somewhere....WOW!...I finally had the great
good fortune to meet Wolfman backstage one night...his
eyes were just as wild as in "American Graffiti",his
laugh just as genuine and infectious and his rasp
lit up the room...all should know that he did say
'57 Chevy Nomads like we now own rank among his all-time
favorite classics...to the memory of Wolfman Jack:,,,"Clink!!"

I recently got wind of something that I am not to familiar with. Was the
paint
on the instrument panel (dashboard) a shade or two flatter than the regular
exterior color? I heard that it was, however, I have been around these old
cars
a long time and that's the first I have heard of it.
Thanks,

Bob-

I was given your name as a source for project cars...I am looking for a 57
Chevy convertible to restore. If I can't find one, I would like a 57 Chevy
Bel-Air Hardtop.

Do you have any of these vehicles, or can you lead me in the right
direction?

Does anyone know of a supplier of 605 steering boxes that are any
less in price than all of them that you see on the market today? I
would like to buy one but hate to give 375.00 for one. If you have.
