More info from old lists.
55-56 4 barrel air cleaners. "I have finally tracked down the correct
part number from K&N, it is E3650. This is the reusable, cleanable
filter system that K&N is famous for. The dimensions of the filter
element are: 5" high, 9" OD and 7 1/2" ID." I wish it were easier to
find old information from these list, but at least I located it.

This is info from old list that people are asking about. Don Kent
previously posted "The '57 oil-bath filter replacement is Fram #CA-151"
and originally indicated K&N A090A6 filter would fit the '56 V8 oil bath
air cleaner. 800-858-3333. http://www.knfilters.com/. However, there
was some discussion on the 6/9/2000 list about the K&N number being a
mold number rather than a part number, so if you are looking for one,
contact K&N to see if the number works, and if not, make some careful
measurements of your '56 oil bath air cleaner and see what part number
they come up with, and share what you find out with the list. I could
not find on the list any measurements of the filter being used.

Bill,

If you are looking for a history of you specific car on a web site, I
don't know of any way to get that on the web or otherwise. If you are
looking for a translation/decode of the numbers, that is available. For
the simple VIN, you may check the Spotters Guide on my site.
http://clubs.hemmings.com/sjcc/spot555657.htm If there are other
numbers you want to decode, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

Seasons Greetings Bob and list members
I'm preparing to pull the body on my '55 210 post. I've looked around
for lifts & stands but, whew!, the prices. Has anyone built one?
Anyone willing to share the plans? Maybe somebody has a used rig for
sale. I only have an 8'3" ceiling clearance to work with (pretty
tight). This is my first resto. any hints & tips would be much
appreciated. Happy Holidays, Warren (zeek) Seeker: weseek@charter.net

To Dennis McGillis, Just because a battery is 3 years old, that does not
mean it's on its' last leg! I have had a battery last me 8 Years & was
only
a 60 month battery! A lot depends on how well the battery was cared for
during its life !!!!!!! I recently bought a car that had a battery in it,
that's just now going dead. I checked it out & that battery is almost 10
years Old !!!!!!!!!!! I still find that most batteries will still give you

some warning when their life is about over! They'll go dead, you'll charge

them up & shortly after, they'll go dead again! When they just won't hold
a
charge anymore, then it's time to replace it! Richard

I am a senior in high school. My history teacher gave me your e-mail
address. He said some one on your list would know the answer to my
question.

My grandfather has an very old car in his garage that he has not driven in
at least 30 years. He says it is a Muntz. I have ask a lot of people if
there was ever a Muntz car and no one has ever heard of it. Could that
just be the model of some make of car?

Bob, What a joy to read you too are from Missouri (at least kind of). My
wife was born and raised just outside Neosho and my in-laws are there
now. Guess where I was this Thinksgiving! I met my wife, Crystal there in

1980, so I LOVE Neosho.

Editors note. Rick, Neosho brings back some very fond memories for me. As
a teenager I went to the Neosho Drive in Theater a lot. I even say a few
movies there. My how things have changed. The skating rink on Highway 71
that I spent a lot of time at is now a Walmart. The milk plant where I had
a summer job is now a jail. Camp Crowder, where I had another summer job
is a college.

Hi Bob,

I really enjoy reading your listings, keep up the good work. I just picked

up a '57 sedan delivery with the interior gutted. While I've picked up most
of the
pieces I need, the headliner bows have me stumped. Is there someone out
there that repops
them or does anyone have a set rusting in the corner of their garage? The
set for
my car is [9] bows.

Jason.
If that 55 Vete has a 6 cyl in it I would leave it right there. In 1955
there were only 6 or 8 of these things and yes they were 6 volt as the 54
Chevies were. In 55 the V8 cars had a V at the start of the VIN as did 55
passenger car VINs while the 6 cyl cars started with an E.
In 56 the Vette droped the V in the VIN because they were all V8s after
that. The car should also have a powerglide trans as the standard 3 speed
trans didn't come along till later in production. I wouldn't be surprised
if the 6 cyl jobs were really left over 54s with a 55 VIN.
If you need any info you can go to my web pages at
http://members.kos.net/willisb/ and drop me a note.

Happy Motoring, BOB

Hello Bob and Everyone on the list,

I have a question for those body / sheet metal men (or Ladies) out there. I
am replacing the trunk floor, tail pan and the brace (on underside of trunk
floor). I have the trunk cut out and I am ready to cut out the tail pan.
Which is the correct order for putting it all back together? I think I
should weld the brace to the floor and then the floor and finally the tail
pan. Any advice?

To David Browe, if you do not get an answer please email me. I have a 210
two door sedan and currently have all the trim removed, so all the holes
show. I can email you some pictures with measurements.

Finally, I am only 38 so I have never even seen a Crosley. My dad once
owned one in his high school days. He told me how people would pick it up
and move it on him. I have seen parts of his Crosley because he refuses to
get rid of them. He still has all four tires, the front axle, steering
column, a transmission, the instrument cluster and the frame. Well, some
guys inherit 55 Corvettes and other's will get a box full of Crosley.

Bob,

The K&N air filter element for a 56 4-barrel air cleaner is part number
E3650. People should be advised, however, that before installing it they
should cut the inside portion of the air horn off within 1/8 of the
housing.
If you don't do this, the air horn will be right up against the element and

that portion filtering the air will be small. By making this cut, the air
will be able to move freely around the inside of the air cleaner.

Hello Bob, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thanks for doing such a
wonderful job with the list. I am sure sometimes it feels like a chore.
Thanks again. I wanted to let all on the list know that I have a complete 4

speed setup for a 55-57 chevy. I was going to put it in my 57 so for those
who know some of the linkage may be different for 55 or 56. Here is what's
included; completely rebuilt Muncie 4 speed (course spline input shaft and
wide ratio) original cast iron bellhousing, new trans mounts, Hurst
competition plus shifter with the C handle for Bench seats and all linkage,

all the clutch linkage, all the hardware, new flywheel cover tins, original

starter with support brace, original flywheel with balanced clutch and
pressure plate. here is a link to pictures

Hi Bob,
This is for Jason, who inherited the '55 Vette from his great uncle.
(Some people have all the luck!) If the car is in #1 condition, which is
factory new, it has a value of $88,000 with the 6 cyl. (The V-8, in #1
condition is valued at $90,000.) These values are from the current "Old
Cars Price Guide". If the car also has the removable hardtop, add $1800 and
up, depending on the condition of the top. Since there were only 674 1955
Corvettes built, it is a very rare car today. I don't have a breakdown on
how many 6 cylinder 'Vettes were produced. Perhaps another list member
might have that info.

The car maker that built ships was Henry J. Kaiser. The ships were the
WWII Liberty ships. There were hundreds built but only two still in
operating condition. One is on the west coast, Washington, I believe, and
the other is the John W. Brown, here in Baltimore.
Happy Holidays to you, Bob, and to all the list members! Wild Bill

Hi Bob,

The other car maker who built ships was Henry J. Kaiser. I believe he
also
owned the unlimited hydroplane called Hawaii Kai driven by Jack Regas. The

hydro is on display at the Hyroplane museum in Southpark, Washington along
with the Slo-Mo-Shuns IV and V.

Editor's note. For list members in Hawaii, I am sure you are familiar with
Hawaii Kai. It is a subdivision near the Khala Mall. I think it was also
built by Kaiser. Anyone know for sure?

This car is just gonna cause you trouble and grief and will complicate
your life. Tell you what I'll do; I'll take it off your hands for
free. I won't even charge you to come get it. Just tell me where it is
and I'll be there in the morning with a truck. (Kidding of course --
congratulations on having such a great great uncle).

Editor's note. <G> Jason, if Bob Rice does not come by and pick up the
car, I have a deal for you. You probably don't want a plastic car with a 6

metal. We can make an even trade <G>.

Henry
J and the Kaiser. Henry also provided copies of the Henry J to Sears for
sale
through their catalogue it was labeled the Allstate. A side note to this
story is a 55 Chevy owner currently owns the Henry J. Kaiser estate in
California

Calls I will probably NOT get from my bank:

Your account balance is over our insured limit.

Your loan is approved and we will not need any collateral for the loan.

Your check bounced but we will cover it until you bring in a deposit.

We have a lot of money now, would you like a loan?

It is Christmas, you can skip your December loan payment.

If you will finance your new BMW with us, we will give you a free wash each
week for a year.

You have a negative FICO score but we will still give you a loan.

I think the interest rate on your loan is too high, we are going to lower
it.
