I have some questions about fuel injection I hope you can answer for me.

    1. What does it cost to convert a non fuel injection to one with fuel
    injection?

    2. Does the increase in value of the car cover the cost of converting to
    fuel injection?

    3. I think they stopped making fuel injection in 1959. Can a 1960 with a
283 be converted to fuel injection?

    4. Does converting to fuel injection give you more power or better gas
    mileage or both?

    Alfred Johnson

Editor's note. In my opinion the, the person that knows the most about
fuel injection is Chuck Smith in Calabasas. Check his web site at
www.chucksmithcheys.com. If anyone would know the answers, Chuck would.
I hope he will respond to your questions. My guess it that it would cost
between $10,000 and $20,000 to convert a motor to fuel injection. It is
not cheap. Every product I have seen that Chuck Smith makes has always
    been the finest quality.

I rebuild manual transmissions and have done this since 1957. Recently a
guy brought me a master rebuild kit for a muncie four speed trams that he
had purchased on line for a very friendly price. The front bearing in this
kit had 7 balls thaT were held together with a plastic retainer. I called
the company that put this kit out and ask them if I could buy the bearing
separately. They told me that the bearing had come fro the Green Company
and that they were $7.00 each.
The bearings that I use have 12 balls and a steel retainer and cost me
$45.00. There were other parts in this kit that were suspect. The kits that
I sell also have Gm type parts that work well.

Paul from San Diego hit the nail on the head regarding oldie stations
    playing
only the same top 10 songs and missing out on a lot of other great old
    songs.
The greatest reference book made on old rock and roll is "The Billboard
    Book
of Top 40 Hits," by Joel Whitburn. It starts in 1955 and goes to the
present, so an older edition will eliminate songs out of the 90's and 00's
(no loss there). It cross references artists and song titles while listing

the date the song hit the charts, highest charting position, number of
    weeks
in the top 40 and what label it was released on. You can find it at most
book stores. This book will settle most arguments on rock and roll songs
plus give you a little insight on the groups. For example:

Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb) charted on 4/27/59 for 4 weeks and went
    to
#11 on the Warner label. By the way, that sexy girl on the song was Connie

Stevens (what a babe!). Do you remember the TV program he starred on? He
was born Eddie Breitenberger on 7/30/33 in New York City. I told you this
book has a lot of information in it.

Many large CD stores have computers you can use yourself that tell you
    where
you can find the songs you're looking for. Best to make a list first so
    you
can get down to business. Rock and roll and a classic Chevy - what a
    combo.

Hi BOB ,,, I see that you are still doing a great job with this
list,,,, its funny how all this work keeps you running LOL.. Hope that
you are done with the flu thing ,, not any fun ..

I have been buying items from e-bay, for almost 4 years now, and 98% have
been no problem deals.. Just recently I have noticed that the sellers want
the buyer to post feedback first, then they { the seller } will post
........ I do not agree with this type of policy.. 1 . I have trusted
someone else with my money and they still have the product. If I"am
willing to send them money on their word and description of the item, they
could at least give me feedback when the payment arrives.. and if they are
telling the truth about what they are selling,, they wont have to worry
about getting negative feedback, But with waiting till I { or buyer } does
the posting, the seller can at that time, decide what type of feedback he
gives.. This way the seller NEVER gets any negative feedback ..

This is way wrong... and leads every buyer to think that the seller only
has great items .. I think that the statement the you made is the best
one.. If a person is purchasing a large ticket item, have someone close by
go take a look at it . I did this on a car in GA. had a body shop go look
at the car and give me an estimate on the repairs.. This proved that the
seller really wanted to sell this parts car ....as it turned out .......
Jeff here in snow covered Michigan .....

Editor's note. I have noticed that trend on e-bay also. It renders the
buyer response almost useless. However after further thought, I am not so
sure the sellers response to a buyer's response has a lot of meaning. If
I am not selling anything on e-bay, I am not sure I care a lot what the
seller says about me as a buyer. I always send payment for the few things
I have bought on e-bay the day after the bidding closes. Anyone have any
experiences good or bad buying or selling on e-bay.

To Frank Foglia's inquiry regarding Dot 5 Brake Fluid, I converted my 55
Thunderbird a few years back, tired of my master cylinder rusting out.
First I removed all rubber parts and bought new ones. Then I flushed out
all the brake lines and cylinders with alcohol to remove the old brake
fluids. Next I blew air through all the lines to get rid of the alcohol.
Installed all the new rubber, filled it up with Dot 5 and have not had a
lick of trouble since. Painted a little sign on the master cylinder
cautioning "Dot 5 Only" for the odd lube tech that may be checking
    fluids...
    Good Luck!

    To Paul,

You asked about oldies radio stations. Unfortunately, Southern California
is "blessed" with some of the worst radio stations in the country. And,
there are a LOT of them! I used to work in radio, so I know a little about
it. What you're hearing is music from the demographic group the station
owners are trying to sell to. That is, the date of the music will
correspond to the age of the listener, i.e. 80's music on stations catering
to the 30's age group, 70's music for the 40's age group, 60's music for 50
year olds, and 50's music for us old timers. As time goes on there are
less people in the older agegroups (or maybe they can't hear too well
anymore!). Anyway, advertisers buy stations that can deliver a young
listenership. When I was in radio the prime audience was 17-34 years old.
They were the ones buying things, for new households, etc. The stations
play a short playlist because they've done studies that tell them the
average radio listener is only with them long enough to get from Point-A to
Point-B, or about twenty minutes. They want you to hear a hit EVERY TIME
you tune in. That way you'll listen more closely and probably hear the
commercials, too. These guys aren't doing it for fun, you know?

I've found one place that seems like it IS doing it for fun. It's on the
Internet at http://www.netoldies.com/. On the left of the page you'll see
a box titled "Listen Here". Click on the arrow and select the way you want
to connect. If your choice doesn't work, use another (slower) connection.
This stuff is GREAT! The quality is really good. And, there are no
    commercials.

Another place you may want to look at is http://www.reelradio.com/. The
site is just full of REAL radio recordings, or airchecks, from way back
when. They include stations from all over the country. You can get lost
    in that place!

    Hope that helps you.

    Bob:
Why do I get bad static on the AM band of the radio in my '57 whenever I
step on the brakes or turn on the turn signals? FM is not affected and
AM comes in loud and clear all other times. I've put up with this
problem for years because I don't listen to AM that much, but one of my
many New Years resolutions is to fix it. Where do I start? Thanks!

Editor's note. My guess is the contacts on your brake lights and turn
    signal lights are not clean
OR you don't have a good ground. As a test run a wire from your brake
lights to the Negative terminal of your battery. See if that solves the
    problem.
