Greetings from Nashville, Bob,

I've sent in a number of e-mails to you over the past year, or so, in an
effort to sell, or trade, my '48 Buick Sedannette, so that I can purchase a

Tri-Five Chevy. To make the offer even 'sweeter,' I offered to include a
rare
and 'vintage' poster of one of my early 1960s Beach Boys concerts as a
special 'bonus.' This is a mint 'original' poster--not a reproduction. I
know. I produced the concert approximately thirty-eight years ago.

Well, to be quite truthful, I've had more inquiries about the poster than
about the Buick!!:) So, if you wish to mention it in a future Tri-Five
Chevy
List issue, I have two such posters that I will sell outright. One is
'signed' by two of the three surviving original founding members of The
Beach
Boys--Brian Wilson and Alan Jardine--and the other is unsigned. I have seen

the unsigned one valued at $2,500 in the Rock Memorabilia price guides, and

that was almost four years ago.

I will accept $2,000.00 for the 'unsigned' poster and $3,000.00 for the
extremely rare signed poster. I was there at the signing and will
authenticate the signatures as genuine. For most 'classic' car owners, The
Beach Boys epitomized the 60s music. They are, after all, considered
"America's Band." This is a rare keepsake from a bygone era. Signed by two
original founding members of the group. If they wish, I can hang on to the
'signed' poster until I see Mike Love again, and have him sign it, even
personalize it for the buyer.

Brian Wilson is considered by many, including Paul McCartney, as a rare
musical genius, and the innovator of the "west coast' sound. He has often
been compared to Cole Porter, Stephen Foster, and other music legends. The
group's album, "Pet Sounds," is considered the #2 rock album of all-time
and
the #1 rock album from the USA. "Revolver," by The Beatles, is considered
#1
World-Wide.

Well, Bob, there you have it. If you wish to run this message in the
regular
issue, or the "FOR SALE" issue, thanks in advance. The choice is yours. If
not, I totally understand.

Have a great weekend! Keep up your work. We all appreciate your efforts.

Regards,

Fred Vail
Nashville, TN

Editor's note. I just bought my tickets today to see the Beach Boys when
they are in Anaheim in June.
I saw them last year at the same place (The Grove). Can anyone think of
any other group of grandfathers that can attract a group of teenagers to
their concerts?

I loved Newt Figton's method of changing engine oil and cleaning that dirty
old gunk out of the crankcase but now that he's sleeping better, I can't
help but wonder if he knows for sure if he has every last soap bubble out
of there. If one of those baby's keep floating around in there, gets too
big and pops, he could blow an engine out in the middle of nowhere! Good
luck Newt from griffs57 @msn.com

Editor's note. I have a friend that had good luck with Passport Transport.
His big thing was they take credit cards so if there was a problem, he has
some control over them getting paid. He didn't have a problem with his
shipment.
It took about 5 weeks to ship a car from the East Coast to the LA area.

Bob,

Several months back in your 55-57 listing I saw a web site that you
can search for classic cars, I just bought a new computer and have lost all
my favorite classic web site, but this one in particular was great, I
thought is was called cartradercollection.com or something like that, I
would just enter the cars (1962 Chevy Impala & 1963 Ford Falcon) I am
looking for and they had many for sale to chose from, hope you can help, I
enjoy your listing alot,
Thx,

Resend of prior msg.

My '57 Bel Air is 99.9% rust- and dent-free. The only problem I have is
on the one inner skirt in its area below the battery box. Over the
years, evidence of sulfuric acid from a probably damaged battery had
corroded the inner skirt. I would like to replace this, as it is the
only damage existing on my unrestored car.

Where can I find this piece?

An unrelated issue is with my '87 El Camino. It has the factory Turbo
350 transmission coupled to a 305 cid engine. I have obtained a 700R4
transmission from a 1985 Corvette which I want to place in the El
Camino. Can anyone give me guidance as to the steps to take?

Thanks,
John Bowers

Bob Ford strikes again!

Friends of ours were looking to buy a 56 Chevy 4 door and couldn't find
anything locally. We suggested they send a post to you indicating their
wants and desires and sure enough some loyal reader gave it to a car
owner who doesn't even have a PC but who had a 56 for sale. They flew
out to Kansas and drove it home without a problem. Funny thing is
another friend of ours knew somebody else in Kansas who new the owner and
had even ridden in the car. Small world for classic car lovers.

Thanks Bob

As a reminder it was Bob's list that allowed me to find my 57 2 door
hardtop and create an instant and continuous bond with the former owner
in South Carolina.

8836 '55 Nomads built, 7886 '56s, and 6103 '57s. Wild Bill

Editor's note. There is a great section in Pat Chappell's book "The Hot
One" on Nomads. That book is long out of print but it shows up on e-bay
sometimes. It is a great book for TriFive people.

As always Great List!

Like most of us I am how should I say ..... frugal.... with my cash for
restoration (especially since I have 3 projects going at the same time)and
like to do as much myself as I can. My question is regarding rechroming
various objects. How or what , can I do to prep the piece to be rechromed
to make it easier and less expensive once I take it to the chrome shop?
Assume there are the usual pits and blisters.

In response to Emory Bishops 56 tailite resto method. I've done the same
thing
to mine with much less work. Use gloss black Rustolium. Thin a bit so it
flows
easily. Drop some thinner in the rectangles then drop the Rustolium in a
drop
at a time with a tiny artist brush so it flows into the rect. Let dry.
Repeat
without the thinner. Cant tell from factory.

Bob and List Members,
While my address may infer that I live in
beautiful downtown Reserve, NM, I actually live on a
ranch about 15 miles from town. Bob, when you drove
down Hiway 180 so many years ago you went right past
(what would become) my home. If you (or any other
list members) are ever in the area again, please stop
by!
To Carl and Sandy: According to my reference
books, the total production numbers for Nomads were:
1955 = 8530
1956 = 8103
1957 = 6534
Since it doesn't look like I'm ever going to get
another truck, I have for sale a pair of '55-'59 rear
barn doors for Sub/Panel as well as front doors and
some misc. truck parts.

Hi Doug and all Tri Fivers
"You wrote Has anyone used the Wilwood disc brake kit for the tri5 chevy"
The brake kit is a direct bolt on to your normal original spindle and
everything is included. You will have to use a disc brake style rim for the

calipers to clear. I installed the Wilwood front disc brake kit #140-3425
for the 55-56-57 Chevy in my '56 Belair 2dr. You should contact Dean Oshiro

at Hot Rods USA 1-888-875-6666 he has written an extensive article about
brakes. If you go to his website http://www.hotrodsusa.com/ you can access
his article under his "links and other pages" heading. My local car club
members "Finger Lakes Classic Chevy Club" helped me with the total
conversion. http://www.fingerlakesclassicchevy.com/ We even installed the
Wilwood Dual side by side master cyl. swing pedal with balance bar
#340-1287. Then we added the side by side master cylinders (1) 3/4" and (1)

7/8" for my disc/drum setup. There were some extensive modifications made
for this particular combo to work, especially the swing pedal so we could
keep it in the normal location. You should ask Dean Oshiro about doing this

upgrade with the minimal amount of work, unless your willing to do the
uncharted mods. The system looks and works great. I'm still fine tuning the

front to rear balance. It is wise to remove the rubber brake hoses and
install braided stainless lines for added braking and safety. Dean also
gave me the best pricing that I was able to find on the internet. I hope
this helps you and other mail list members.

Can anyone explain why Chevy did a major change from the 57 to 58 Chevy and
then a major change from the 58 to 59 Chevy? I don't think that has ever
been done again. That is 2 new cars in 2 years. Don't you think that cost
GM a bundle to do that. Did the market take a sharp drop in 58 so Chevy
had to make a major change.
