Hello Bob,
Though I have a '56 in progress, I also picked up a '69 Impala Convertible
and need a couple things for it. I am looking for a drain channel which
runs
around the rear 'deck' area which the top drains into. Also, a header bow,
the front portion of the convertible top frame, in good condition.
Thanks for the assistance.

Please post Bob,

I am considering switching out original seats for my 57 2 door hardtop
and I am looking for something that 1) reclines and 2) doesn't look
higher than a stock seat. Is there anything that can be done to an
existing seat to make it recline? Or does anybody have a suggestion on a
suitable replacement?

Interesting (April 1, 1965) asking prices for those tri-five Chevys in the
Tempe-Mesa (AZ) American Weekly (as reported in the list distributed
4-15-02).

But, one should keep the other side of the equation in focus as well. I was

still a poor college student on that date. The year previous, I'd bought a
solid '54 Stude wagon with a V8 and three-speed with OD in New Jersey for
$100. Why, well because it was cheaper than a Chevy, Ford, etc. It served
me
quite well for 30,000+ miles.

And, when I finished my Senior year and got out of school in June of '66 I
went to work for General Motors as a fifth-level engineer. My princely
salary
was a whopping $640 per month.

I think this was also pretty representative for the time. When viewed in
this
light, things don't seem quite so out-of-proportion - no?

Help! I'm in the middle of a mild restoration (front end dismantled to
frame)
and have to move! I've got five weeks before I have to go, but just in case
I
don't get things back together, does anyone know of an auto transport co.
that can take a car that's not running? Most I've been in touch with need
to
be able to drive the car onto their truck. I'm hoping to at least get the
suspension and steering back together, but the engine may not be ready.
Anyone had this experience???

Hello Everyone,

Once again Thanks Bob for putting this great list together. I would like to
toss a question to get feed back from people. The question is, If you had
your frame sandblasted would you paint, epoxy paint, powder coat or use a
product like Rhino bed liner and why? I would love to ready peoples
feedback on this.

Yes, you can change the balancer as long as it is not a 400 cubic inch
engine. Most of the truck engines has the big balancer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bob and everyone. The big day was last Saturday when I brought my 57
home. 3 years later and I finally have a beautiful 57 in my garage I wish
every one on the list could see it!! I want to thank Woody on this list who
helped me locate a part I needed. Brian in Calif. had one and hopefully it
is in the mail. I would really like to find a pair of nos lower rear
quarter mouldings or a pair that is almost mint. I had bought a pair of
repo mouldings and I sent them back I guess I am to picky, but they just
would not do. If any one knows where I might buy a pair, please email me
One of these days, I will post all my extra parts and help some one else
out Keep up the good work Bob, we all love this list. Roger in Iowa

This is a reply to Lenny Schaeffer's question about stock vs custom
Chevies.

I feel very blessed to own more than one 57 Chevy. I normally prefer stock
and try to mostly restore or refurbish them to that condition. I recently
picked up a 57 Nomad that was started but not finished. It has been built
to be a show car and has too many trick components to name here. I still
need to reassemble it and have yet to drive it but I really look forward to
it. I am getting tired of driving my stock 57s with their lack of power
and braking. Going around corners can be an adventure in itself.

My plan is to finish the Nomad and then determine what to do with my
convertible. Seems to me that unless you have a 100 point restoration on
the convertibles, you may as well do the upgrades. The most expensive
convertible 57s I have seen have all been totally stock. The most fun to
drive seem to be ones that have some upgrades to them. Unless one plans on
having a perfect restoration to original, a "less than perfect"
restoration/refurbishment and a modified car are worth about the same
amount. Any other opinions out there?

Hi Bob and list member. My friend has a lot of parts that he would like to

sell cheap.
The parts are locate Hyde Park New York. Here is some of it.

I have a ton of 1963 - 64 Chevy parts. Seats, steering columns, date coded
heads and intakes, windshield, back glass, stainless trim, dash clusters,
you
get the picture. Is there anyone in your car club that can use any of this?
I
hate to go through the trouble of advertising or lugging all of it to a
swap
meet. I really don't want to throw it in the dumpster either. I will let it

all go cheap. Real cheap if someone wants a truckload of stuff. There is no

performance stuff just stock parts. Good for someone doing restoration
work.

Bob

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am still floating on Cloud 9. They say
if something is too
good to be true, it probably isn't true. Well this is too good to be true
but it is true. I took your
advice and checked my state for unclaimed funds. Much to my surprise there
was a lot of money
in my name. Here is my story. If you put this out on the list please
don't publish my address or
last name.

My ex husband held a very high position in a large Fortune 500 company.
After 30 years of
marriage, he dumped me and married his secretary who was younger than our
daughter. After
that I never wanted to see him again or have anything to do with that bum
again. He moved out
of town and none of us had any communication with him ever again. We had
some hard times
but I put him out of my mind and went on with my life. This was about 10
years ago.

When I looked at my states unclaimed property per your suggestion, I found
the proceeds from
my former husbands life insurance policy. I did not know he had died or he
had any life
insurance. It seems the company he worked for had a 7 figure life
insurance policy on him and he
had forgot to change the beneficiary to his new young wife. He must have
had his mind was on
other things. I was still the beneficiary of his life insurance policy. I
guess he was too busy showing
off his trophy wife to worry about such details. HOW SWEET IT IS. However
the good news
did not stop there. It seems he had also forgot to change the beneficiary
of his 401K to his new
wife. It was still in my name.

Apparently as Jerry Ried would say, I got the gold mine and his new wife
got the shaft. This
means more to me than all of the money.

Bob, I am sending you a token of my appreciation for what you have done for
me. I got both
checks in the mail from the state last week. I could believe the state
would send such a large
check through the mail as a regular letter. It was not even certified. I
also got a letter from his
trophy wife after I got the money telling me I had a moral obligation to
give the money to her as
he had just forgot to change the beneficiary to her. I don't know how she
knew I had received
the money but I sent her a check for 1 penny to satisfy my "moral
obligation".

When I deposited the checks in the bank last week, I heard words I never
thought I would hear in
my life. They said "your deposit is way over our insured limit. Are you
sure you want to put it all
in one account." In fact when I took the checks to the bank, the teller
said she could not deposit
the checks in my account. They were over her limit. I told her I was
putting the money in her bank, not
taking it out. How could it be over her limit. She immediately took me to
see the branch
manager who wanted to sell me insurance and investment advice. From his
tone, I knew he
thought a woman was not smart enough to handle this amount of money. I am
now looking for
another bank.

Editor's note. What a great story. Thanks for sharing it with us. Good
luck and much happy ness.
