I am looking for a original set of T3 headlights for my 57 chevy. They are
the T3's with the speckle pattern(not lines) around the "T" in the center,
and have the very small letters that say "sealed beam" at the bottom. Can
anyone help?

Thanks

thanks. I installed that CCI pressure release valve in the transmission

Just an update to my original question of stock vs modified- I received
replies from people 2 to 1 that we have more modified car owners on the

Interesting huh....

Hi all. Does anyone have any idea where I might get a TH400 case.

I have a 55 Belair 2dr sedan, 327 (461 heads), TH400 and a Ford rear end.
In Colorado, it is almost impossible to locate a case for the TH400 (mine
has failed at the upper right bolt).

While I am at it, seems as though I may be moving back to southern Cal.
Anything I need to know about registration? The car has headers that
collect low and currently don't exit the body. I think CA requires this.
Also, how loud, since mine is a tad above normal?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi Bob and all! I'm trying to put together all the
needed pieces (moldings,clips & etc.)for the headliner
of my 56 Belair 2dr. sedan.I have the ones around the
windshield I also have the frames around the two door
and the rear qtr. windows. Are there any around the
rear window or are there any along the lower part of
the headliner? Are there any books that will show all
these parts? Moldings and clips and whatnots? The car
was a basket case so I'm really not certain all the
parts are there or not.The frames around the rear qtr
windows how are they attached,do I need some sort of
clips? The molding around the windshield, I have those
but it appears that there's a clip missing for the top
center, does someone make these? Thanks for ANY

Glenn,
It's funny that you mentioned how CCI has become all business. The night
before I got Bob's email, my daughter was asking me about the house that we

stayed in when we went to Orlando in 1988. She has a daughter of her own
now
and wants to go down there. She was saying how she remembers how nice that
house was and how big. I told her that I rented through the 'Classic Chevy
Club', and it only cost $35 a night, and 2 families could have slept there
comfortably. She couldn't believe it! But, then I told her that they don't

have it anymore, because the new owners felt it didn't relate to a car
club.
I've said this before, but to me, that is what a club is all about!
Offering benefits for the members. And that is what Doug Morehead did.
Since
the Club Headquarters were located only 20 minutes from Disneyworld, I
thought it was a great idea to offer the members a place to stay at a
fantastic rate. And when my family and I stopped at the headquarters, I not

only met Doug, but he took us all in his office, offered us a soda and we
all
sat down and talked like we were old friends. Then, he had an employee
give
us a tour of the whole facility. I left there feeling like a 'member'.
If the 'Bow Tie Chevy Association is anything like that, sign me up!

Mitch,
It sounds like your local transmission shop is a local 'thief'. First of
all,
you should be able to get the trans completely rebuilt for around $1,000,
or
not much more. And, like Bob said, a seal kit cost less than $200. Labor
should be around $3-400, assuming he is removing and re-installing the
trans.

Reply to Tony Darnangelo:
I went through the whole maze you're looking at and here's the route I
took.
Leaf Springs; remove them, wire brush and paint. Re-bush where needed. Get
Tephlon stripps and place between leafs, add an extra leaf if you like a
more solid ride. Smooth and firm.
Sway Bars; Buy the heavy-duty ones at J.C.Whitney, front AND back. Then get
the high performance polyurethane bushings for the end assemblies, they
make a huge difference.
Front Coil Springs; check with Moog Engineering, 800-325-8886 I think a 62
Impala spring has the same dimensions but is a bit stiffer.
I did all this and give BMW's a run for their money around corners, lotsa
fun!
As for wheels and tires, if you want to run 14"ers, 225/70R14 work fine all
around. I just went to the junkyard and got a set of 15" stock steel
wheels for about $6 each, mounted some 225/60R15's and covered them with
Mooneyes Discs. It looks so fine! The rears could probably handle
255/60R15.
Hope this helps, Paul

For Tony regarding springs & radial whitewalls. I replaced the rear
springs
on my '55 Sport Coupe with 2' lower springs from Posies' in Hummelstown,
PA,
(It sat too high w/station wagon springs) & replaced the bias www with
P205.75x15s from Coker. What a difference in ride & looks. It sits
perfect.
My car is basically restored with crate 350, AM/FM & Vintage Air being only

modifications. It has fender skirts & all accessory exterior chrome &
stainless. The street rod shops have all kinds of improvements/accessories

for '55-'57s.

Bob,

I just wanted to say that over the past several years that not only should
you be commended, but so many of the people along this list are so
friendly,
helpful and courteous in terms of helping me find parts and information
when
my mechanical skills are taxed to their limit.

Last week I met a man who lives up in Boonville who is restoring a 1955
Second series pickup truck and he is looking for a hood ornament for one of

these. It is different from the 1954 truck hood which he already has. I
believe this one had the bowtie painted red but someone can correct me if I

am wrong.

I don't think he will pop for "show chrome" but I think he wants a good one

without pits. If anyone has one for a reasonable price send me an email
and
I will forward his telephone number to the interested party.

I really enjoyed the story about the lonely widow. I was wondering if she

happily married man and seriously in love with my beautiful wife and 57

I have some parts for sale:
56 Chevy 4 barrel carb, intake and oil bath air cleaner - $500
57 Chevy 4 barrel carb, intake and oil bath air cleaner - $750
57 Chevy 4 barrel carb and intake - $300

Keep up the good work and, as always, remember that 'GOD is Love and even
more'.

I've got a few large '55 chevy parts that I'd like to get rid of. This is
what I'm including, but you must come to pick them up: drivers' side front

inner fender, front half of driver's side quarter panel for a four door
(from
door jamb back to just in front of the gas door), four door front seat, and
a
pair of four door sedan rear doors (complete including accessory vent
shades).
$20 takes it all. I also have lots of trim pieces for '55-'57 Chevys
(mostly all four door). I'm located just north of Reading, PA.

re: Paul Newman
Last year I parked next to a guy at the Good Guys, Pleasanton show who
had Paul Newman put Corvette front and rear suspension on his 57 2
door hardtop chassis. The whole car was very well done indicating the
guy likes to do things right, and he was VERY happy with the Newman
work. He said the ride and handling were great. He said it is not cheap,
but you can work with them, possibly finding your own salvage unit(s) or
they will provide all. I may have his name, but don't hold your breath.
Good luck with your project.

Great news, Bob,

Well, I can let the news out now: I took delivery last Thursday on the '55
Bel Air we discussed a few weeks ago. It's a great 'original' '55, with
three
on the tree and a "6" cylinder engine. Absolutely fantastic condition.
Gypsy
Red and Ivory. Inside and out a truly classic car.

I don't know how they grade these cars, as to 1-6, but I would have to put
this one in the solid "2" category, if I were judging. A few minor flaws,
two
spots on the bumpers, a pit in the passenger side glass (probably from a
"Red
Rider" BB gun!!). It came with 'radio delete' so I would like to put in a
radio and sound system of some sort. Any ideas? (trunk mount, glove box
mount, under the seat?).

Also, any advice as to a 'lead substitute' additive? Any other suggestions?

It does not have power steering. I know that there are kits available for
about $1,300, but is it worth doing?

I was able to trade my great '48 Buick Sedennette 'Super' as part of the
deal--along with several pieces from my 50s rock memorabilia collection. I
purchased the car from Bryan Condra of IN. He was the seventh owner, I'm
the
eighth. We both feel we did well. It was the 'right time' for both of us.
This car has really been well taken care of. And, only 38,120 miles!! The
'spare' tire appears to be the original--47 years old!

I'll try to get some photos of the car up on my Treasure Isle Recorders
site,
which is currently under reconstruction/updating. Thanks to you, Bob, for
your advice, encouragement and friendship.

If any of your readers know of any Chevy shows or cruises in Middle TN,
southern KY or northern AL, please let me know. Looking forward to enjoying

the summer and having years of 'fun, fun, fun' with the '55!

Regards,
Fred

I have a question for list members. I have a stock 57 2 door.
I would like to convert to power disc brakes front and rear. I know this
topic has been discussed before, but there seems to be quite a few options
out
there. I've heard about adapting brakes from other full size Chevys or
just buying
a full kit. Just curious what experiences others have had. I don't plan on
drag racing
or driving the car on a daily basis, but would at least like to update the
current
braking system. Bob-again, thanks for your hard work on this list. It has
been a great
help !

I know you will get some flack from your last list but I want you to know
that the info about Chevys is valuable. Your information about life is
priceless. I just went through the experience of a death in the family.
It was my job to make the arrangements. It was a horrible experience. One
I hope never to repeat. I won't go into details but I took your advice and
made a "Open on My Death File" so my family will never have to go through
the experience I did. ALL of your information is greatly appreciated.
