Hi Bob - Always appreciate your both listings that come to us, Parts for
Sale and Cars. We have a 1955 Belair Two-door hardtop, just completed
restoration to all original, but require, or I should say desire, to have
the option included of the Original Sun Visor. I should point out that the
sun visor for the 1955 two-door hardtop sport coupe IS DIFFERENT than the
one for the sedan model. Size is slightly different. We did have an
original and thought it was for the two-door hardtop - had it all painted,
etc. only to discover in a dry run fitting at the paint shop, that is was
the incorrect visor. DOES ANYONE HAVE THIS OPTIONED ITEM FOR SALE, OR
KNOW WHERE WE COULD GET AN ORIGINAL. Appreciate your help. Sharon

Hi George-
I'm forwarding your message to other hobbyists around the world in the hope
that someone can help you with some ideas. Sounds like a great Truck, but
be
alert because they are very rare & desirable. It deserves a careful
restoration, not some hack job. For me ("Mr. Original") I'd definitely
rebuild the stock V8 engine, to retain it's maximum value if at all
possible. Unless you want a modified Truck with Air Conditioning, late
model
suspension, etc., that's the best way to go. However the decision to go
stock or modified, is ultimately up to you & your personal tastes.

The best thing to do is to join a local SoCal Chevy Club and get the scoop
on who to go to. You are welcome to join our Club if you wish. For a
National Club Check out our friends at Bow Tie Chevys or CCI (see
http://www.laccc.com, under "Cool Links"). Off hand for a restoration I
would recommend D&P Classic Chevys in Huntington Beach, as they do first
class work.

Anyone else have any suggestions for George? If so contact him
directly. -Jerry Mull LACCC president

Hi Bob and Chevy enthusiasts:
I wish I was capable of doing the restoration work on my '55. It was
actually done by Show Car Restoration in Van Nuys (about 1 mile from where
the car was first assembled).

Regarding the 1956 car with the self-leveling rear end...how about a
Packard
Caribbean. As a kid I remember walking by one every Saturday on the way to

the matinee (10 cartoons, feature film, serial, and door prizes -- all for
9
cents). One of us would step on the rear bumper. The car would go down,
then up too high, then settle at normal. We could hear little motors
humming
during this process. Best regards,
Sherwin Silver
Classic Chevys of Southern California

Editor's note. Sherwin, what ever happened to the Chevy plant in Van Nuys
after it closed?
Your car is the best advertisement a car restoration company can have.
Speaking of movies, anyone ever try
to get into a drive in by being in the trunk?

Hi Bob-
Perhaps someone on the List knows of a car that would be perfect for us. As
you know we own a very stock Gypsy Red & Shoreline Beige '55 Nomad and a
nearly stock Onyx Black '55 210 Delray Club Coupe. We've owned these cars
for 16 years and 34 years respectively. We'd like to find a really nice '55
BelAir 4-Door to use as a nice "daily driver". We're not too keen on doing
another restoration, so we'd like to find one that's already at least
80-90% done, or better. Here is our "Wish List":

1. Must be Glacier Blue and Ivory, or Glacier Blue and Skyline Blue (Cowl
tag must match).
2. V8 powered, stock 265 or 350.
3. Automatic Transmission (Powerglide or Turbo Hydro).
4. EZI glass & nice stainless trim.
5. Stock or near stock interior.
6. Straight or near straight, rust free body. Decent chrome.
7. No major accidents in it's history.
8. Power Brakes and Disk Brakes (Not critical, we can add).
9. Air Conditioning (aftermarket is fine. Not critical, we can add)
10. Wide White Wall Tires.

I assure anyone who owns such a car that we'd give this '55 a good home and
it would be always garaged along with our other classic Chevys. We might
also consider a really nice 210 4-Door, if somebody has one in the right
colors.

Thanks Bob for all your efforts on the 57-56-55 Chevy List. It's always a
highlight for us to receive it each week!

Hi all-
I just wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of your
Convention Team for a fantastic Convention! Having been the co-host of two
Bow Tie Chevy Association Conventions in the past (Long Beach '94 & Ventura
'99) I realize what an effort a Convention like the CCI/WCA Western
National Convention can be. I've attended ten classic Chevy Conventions
over the past 15 years, and I have to say that your Team created one of the
best!

The humid-wet Weather was the only bad part, but your Committee's pleasant
attitudes brightened up every rainy day. From the beginning Wednesday to
the end on Sunday, the Convention was extremely well done. We felt that the
Tech Inspection went very well, as did the Seminars that we attended. We
especially liked the Hospitality Room, the Welcome Party (the food and
company was unbelievable), the Show location, the Sock Hop and the Awards
Breakfast.

Please spread the word to all who helped at your Convention that we were
very pleased to have attended. A big thank you to your Sponsors and CCI/WCA
Headquarters too. I only wish I could have convinced more of our L.A.
Classic Chevy Club members to take the 130 mile drive down to San Diego.
They missed out on a great experience. We met many new friends and renewed
old friendships. And that's really what it's all about.

Thanks again for a job well done!

To penny who asked about El Caminos. The closest the general got to an
El Camino in 1957 was a delivery wagon. To quote the www.chevelles.com
site:

America's favorite car/truck hybrid was first produced in 1959. The first
generation was built on the Impala platform, and was produced for just
two years. After a three year absence, the El Camino was re-introduced in
1964 on the Chevelle/Malibu platform. The 1964 (and subsequent) El
Caminos were an immediate hit with the public. A Super Sport (SS) version
of the El Camino was produced each year, starting in 1968. From 1971 to
1977, GMC produced a version of the El Camino called the GMC Sprint. In
1978, it became the GMC Caballero. The (Chevelle) Malibu was canceled in
1983, but the El Camino and Caballero outlasted their cousin by four
years and stayed in production until 1987.

Regarding the question about self-leveling suspension in 1956: Packard had
introduced their self-leveling suspension system with interconnected front

and rear torsion bars for their 1955 models. Availability continued for
1956,
but the system was dropped at the end of that year with the demise of the
"real" Packards (Studebaker-based Packards, of course, continued through
1958.

I'm not aware of any other self-leveling suspension systems in 1956.
Several
makes debuted self-leveling air-suspension systems in 1958, but innumerable

problems caused their early demise as well.

I hope this helps.

Love your list. I share it with a large extended family. I know you like
50s music so here is a question about 50s music. What country singer had
more songs banned from radio play in the 50s than all other country singers
combined?

Lisa

Editor's note. Lisa, the surprising answer I think is Loretta Lynn. Is
that correct? What songs did the radio stations refuse to play?
