1956 chevy clip for 3 speed trans swivel lever on frame question

Hello again.I am attempting to install this small silver bent clip over the lever that goes on the frame.I installed the new {2| bushings and can't figure from the pics whether the clip goes bent side out or in and the way to install it.I don't want to ruin it because it is the only one I have.This is the 2 lever swivel that the linkage hooks to.Thanks again.

I'd be surprised if it will go on other than the way it was designed...?
