Hi All,

I'm in the process of updating my liftgate, I've removed the torsion bars and installed gas springs. Now I need to see if anyone can tell me how to adjust the upper hinges to get the top of the liftgate inward (toward the front of the car) Can you get to the hinge bolts without removing the headliner?

Any help is most appreciated.

If the top of the Nomad liftgate is sticking out, it's possible that it's twisted and needs straightening. I'm not sure you can even adjust it out like that and make it fit properly. Usually the top ends stick out and the center top is close to the roof. If the whole thing is sticking out I think the only way to adjust it is to shim the hinge. You can move the hinge side to side and up and down, but I don't know of any way to move it in and out relative to the opening other than by shims. To get to the hinge bolts you need to remove the chrome hinge cover.

If it looks like this it's twisted:

9109

9110

This is how it should fit:

9111

9112

My liftgate seems to match the roof contour, the whole top edge sticks out fairly evenly all across the top. I was last 2 pic's look like a great fit and that's what I hope to get mine to.

Thanks so much for the help and input. I will get a pic today and post what mine looks like now.

CN: All those photos seem to be of your car, but was that two different liftgates?? or did you manage to correct your liftgate to correct the issues from the first pix to the last two??

The first pics are before I sent the liftgate to Madmooks, and the second two are after I got it back. I wanted to fit it before he re-chromed it, so I had to send it back to him again after fitting it to MY Nomad. He told me I didn't need to do it and I should have listened to him. :geek:

Appears Michael did a very nice job straightening... :)

PS. The liftgate fit is the FIRST thing I look at when viewing Nomads at a show!

There’s a ton of adjustment in the hinges but only so much you can do with a twisted liftgate . If you sent me pictures I could give you my two cents . Michaelbakotich@ca.rr.com

I just sent my lift gate to madmooks, but when I took it off the roof mount there was shims between the roof and gate hinges. I can see how that would pull the gate closer to the roof. also I had to pull the back headliner away from the roof to get to the hinge plates.
