I've never used air bags, but I'm curious as to what the answer is here... :)

Never did air suspension, but many moons ago, I built a '55 Chevy and set it up to handle. Lowered the car a few inches, installed stiffer springs and front and rear anti-sway bars.

Also installed 2 shocks at each wheel. Rear was straight forward. Front took a bit of thought. I finally used shocks for an early '60s Chevy truck (Bilstein #24-192941) as extra shocks on the front. These were the ones that were mounted outside the front springs. I found some pics of similar mounts (brackets) a guy made to relocate the upper shock mount on a '64 Chevy truck (a more upright mounting results in better control). Not hard to do. Just need to make sure the outboard mounted shocks don't interfere with wheel and tire when wheels are turned full right or full left......

Stock Chevy truck setup without shock relocation......

The Chevy trucks of this period were front steer and the shocks were mounted to the rear of the control arms. Our '55 - '57 Chevy cars are rear steer and its easier to position the extra shock mounts to the front of the control arms. Just make sure that your shock mounts for the lower control arms clear your front anti-sway bar mounts and as mentioned previously, make sure your front wheels and tires clear them when turned lock to lock.

A thought...... If it helps with clearance where the end links for your anti-sway bar and your lower shock mounts attach to your lower control arms...... You can use shocks that attach at the bottom with a vertical stud (just drill a hole in your control arm for the lower shock mount). One such shock that will mount this way are these Bilstein shocks for rear of '65 - '73 Mustang (also uses vertical stud mount at top)......

But I believe the Chevy truck front shocks will provide firmer valving and better ride control.

Hope this gives you some ideas,

Harry
