I seem to recall seeing them in AC Delco blue.

The 'accessory '55 Oil Filters bought over the counter and added on later were painted blue with an orange top, BUT the ones installed in the factory were black with white lettering... the photo shows two (one of each) from my parts bin - the paint is mostly gone on the black one on the right.
The second photo is an original LOADED engine compartment in a '55 Nomad which shows the factory black one restored.

I'm pretty certain you can buy the 'decals' from most of the reproduction parts sellers (Danchuk, Ecklers, Ol '55, etc)..

White decals: https://www.classicindustries.com/product/all-years/chevrolet/belair/parts/tf300047.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwkdL6BRAREiwA-kiczFQOSl8PKZFqTsoEi9inYxZCmvf2M1z_onrTJI3ExFyOtxU DBgO5RBoCK1QQAvD_BwE

blue decals: http://www.classicpartsusa.com/product/OFDAC_1955/1955_Truck_Parts_Decals?gclid=CjwKCAjwkdL6BRAREiwA-kiczDrnsY6-z9uo_-0vCeU2UussSYtDYjCS4GN2kuwlDGiwLYjb9D6BdBoCofsQAvD_ BwE

Do you just LIKE the orange/blue colors? You can probably BUY an NOS oil filter via ebay with the correct original (over the counter colors).. I've seen them for sale many times. If you have one and desire to paint your own the orange/blue colors, then I'm pretty certain that past CCCI articles identified the colors to use. Call Ol '55 (East Coast Chevy) if you can't find the colors in the literature, OR you can use Ford engine Blue for the blue, and Chevy Engine Orange for the Orange and they will be very close... and is probably what MOST people use when they repaint.

The BEST and easiest approach is to paint the accessory oil filter BLACK and use the white decals/templates to simulate a 'factory installed' oil filter. WHY 'simulate' an OTC 'add on' color??

Roadster: The orange/blue over the counter dealership FILTER is exactly the same as the factory installed oil filter, with the ONLY difference being the color it's painted and the contrasting decals for the instructions.

If you find ANY factory V8 oil filter, just strip it and paint it the way you want. If I was going to restore one, I'd do it black also. I included a link for the white decals in an earlier response in this thread (if you do a black one). I probably have an extra one (needing restoration) - IF I could find it in my junk, but you can find one on ebay or ?? easier than I can find one in my shop.. :)

Here is one on ebay (but very expensive IMO)... about twice what I sold one last year for..
https://www.ebay.com/i/184270376340?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=184270376340&targetid=935431405173&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9012692&poi=&campaignid=10897989837&mkgroupid=106040609894&rlsatarget=pla-935431405173&abcId=9300403&merchantid=6296724&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-uH6BRDQARIsAI3I-Ucod4UXGciq9iGDeAzpiuVyUeqKWirGv-fRFLNQLyU2hAl7aMqN6JcaAiW0EALw_wcB

PS. The black/white oil filter I showed earlier which was in a restored '55 engine compartment was a 'special' one, for an 'airconditioned' car. Those are extremely rare and expensive if you could find one, and are only slightly different than the std one for the V8.

i do have the oil filter housing on the car, so a suggestion would be black with white stenciling/decals is it a good judging item in black, bama thanks again
