Original was sagging, pieces falling.
I scrapped it w/ a razor blade, and got 99+% of the gunk off.
The area outside the original sheet is coated w/ a fine rust.
I plan on a light sanding and Ospho treatment prior to the mat.
Is it necessary to clean further, as with a solvent, to take the residue off ?
Any need for an additional adhesive such as 3M spray?
Slo going with bad knees, ears, hands, back!
I hope to drive it, while I can still eat solid food!
This is the bucket list deal, so I need it to last longer than I do!

After the light sanding and cleaning, the underside of the roof might be a great place that the 'black spray 'rust converter' would be appropriate.....?

Thanks! I'm looking into it. NP at this juncture of the "resto". No where near paint ready.

Just a thought to consider.....................when my 56 was pretty much stripped down, I sprayed it with Lizard skin on the roof and floor. After that, with no headliner in it, parked in the sun on a 100 degree day, you could put your hand on the outside of the roof and it was HOT, but put your hand on the inside and it was warm.
Now that the headliner is in, and the new smoke grey glass is installed, I can drive it with the A/C on low to medium fan, and it gets very comfortable quickly, and we were 100 degrees yesterday.

^^ Great idea!
And, it won't let loose and fall onto the headliner.
