Have an 88 350 with edelbrock intake--has electric fans---am going to install fan thermostat--right now the temp sender for the VDO gauges is in the back right port of the intake--was wondering about moving this up next to thermostat housing and putting the sender for fan there if it would still work OK or do I need to think about installing one of them in the head

Was just wondering if temp reading is correct at back of intake and if I switch to front will it read the same---would be easier to just put fan thermostat in the front and leave temp sender in the rearComment

I get a great reading in front. have used one of those infrared temp detectors and its right on.

Reborn, there is no reason the fan sensor won't work just fine at the thermostat. You can leave the gauge sensor where it is. Or you can reverse them if you want to.
I have always wondered how those infrared thermometers factored in the emissivity of the part being measured. That can make a big difference in the temperature reading.56 Nomad, Ramjet 502, Viper 6-speed T56, C4 Corvette front and rear suspension

emissivity? I will have to look that up. what I do know, these infrared thermometers are cool and fun to use.

Emissivity is a measure of a surface's color and texture with regard to its ability to transfer heat by radiation. Radiant heat transfer is proportional to emissivity and temperature.
As an example, a metal panel that's painted gloss black will have a different emissivity than one that's flat black, or a bright color like white. Also a smooth surface will be different than a rough surface. Shape will make a difference too (flat vs. round).Comment
