Correct placement dual exhaust 57 Nomad

There is a 1957 Nomad for sale on e-bay motors , item number 305564814476 which shows 6 very good picture of the underside with the dual exhaust system installed . I just received my dual stainless steel exhaust system and would like to know if the installation on this advertised Nomad looks correct . Both mufflers exit toward the passenger side . We hope to install the system on my Nomad this Saturday . Thanks Dom

markm , thank you for replying . What I meant was that the mufflers except the engine pipe in the center of the muffler and the exit port is toward the right side of the muffler on both mufflers . I hope that I haven made things more confusing .

If you rotate the muffler 180 deg on it's longitudinal axis then it will flip the 'exit port' of the muffler to the opposite side. It doesn't make any difference which side of the muffler is facing down (or up)..

Bama , thanks for the input , I have nice S/S exhaust system which I got thru East Coast Chevy " Ol 55 " . The manufacture is "Schafer classic reproduction parts " like you had recommended . The pipes are of a nice and heavy gauge , and 304 type S/S . Ken at Ol'55 has been a great help as have you in trying to get this 57 Nomad to a point where it's not just a pile of parts . As you know my restorer friend is not doing well , and I have two friends who have been helping me on just Saturdays . The motor and transmission are now installed and this Saturday I hope to get the dual exhaust installed along with the power steering assist arm and hoses . I hope that soon I will be able to start the motor and break it in . This will be monumental . I don't know how much longer the car can stay where it is . If I can get it broke in , then the next step will be to install the front inner fender's and then the painted fender's with the air duct's and S/S trim and hood , and then the original unrestored lift gate , and painted tail gate . At this point if the car had to be moved all the big pieces are back on the car , and then all the remaining S/S trim , vent windows etc. can be easily moved and stored without damage . The E-bay car that I referred to shows both mufflers exiting to the passenger side , trying to get input if that looks correct ?

I went and went thru the sales photos to find the photo you are referencing. I wanted to post it, but unfortunately their photos are in a 'webpage' format and I have no conversion capability for that format! But I did confirm that I understood what you were trying to say. On the driver side, the muffler was oriented so that the muffler output was towards the 'center of the car', whereas on the passenger side the muffler was oriented where the output port was towards the outside of the car. I have NO idea why they did that, as I would have done them with 'mirror images' of one another. The tail pipes are also different to accommodate that diffference! Compare your tail pipes that came from Shafers and see if they are 'mirrored' or not.. Also look under your car and see if it's so different from one side to the other that would explain WHY they did that? I know of NO reason for that myself...
