57 Chevy fuel pump facing backwards?

I am installing a rebuilt Chevy 350 (vintage 75-78) into my 57 Chevy, with a mechanical fuel pump. However, all the connections on the pump face forward, while all the fuel lines come from the back of the car. And the inlet of the pump is a hose connection, while my steel fuel line has a 5/8" threaded flare nut. Nothing seems to be what & where it's supposed to be to make all these connections work. I know I can cut the steel line and add a clamped hose to it, but why would the fuel pump connections face the wrong way?? And I am not going to use an electric fuel pump, so please don't suggest it.

Does your fuel pump have these fittings on the bottom? I just did a google search for images of 57 Chevy Fuel Pump...

You can get adapters to go from the steel line to fuel hose, or just cut the line and add a bubble flare on the end for a better seal for the fuel hose. Pumps have the connections oriented differently to accommodate the chassis or vehicle they were originally installed in.
