56 chevy with high lift coils

Hey, Has anybody here have feed back on using chevy 17 1/2" 2" lift front coil springs on their chevy? How does it look? Is the ride kind of a neo gasser look I hope? Got the parts for front end but waiting for spring weather to break. How tricky is it getting oem steering box out for rebuild? Seals are shot. Georg

I'm not sure how high you want to go, but if you're going to try to raise the front end using tall springs there's two problems. First of all from stock height you only have 3.5" of upward suspension travel before the upper a-arm hits the frame bump top. So if you raise it 2-3" you're going to be bouncing off the bumper. Secondly, by raising the car you exacerbate the problem of positive camber gain on bump, which imo could be dangerous as the bottom of the tire rolls under. You either need to use some balljoint spacers or raised spindles to do it "right". Actually imo the "right" way to build a gasser is with a straight axle.

My nomad had about 3 inches of lift on all 4 could corners when I bought it but I can't tell you what springs they used.

Took a co. truck over to a spring shop off I80. While there I asked the foreman about lifting the 56 frontend 2". He said to make sure he can still alain the front geometry when done use 2 degree offset upper control arm shafts! I got them from Crazy lights off ebay. Feel better already. LOL Now just need misc. bolts and compressor. There are great videos about front end work on You Tube by the way I found. Our old iron uses a long threaded rod to compress the coils as you raise the lower stlightly with jack. Then disconnect lower controll arm bolts before lowering and screwing compressor rod back out. That's the way we wanto go here. G.
