Installing the shift pivot on a 1957 Chevrolet

When installing the shift pivot on a 57 ,V-8 with automatic , the 1/2" pivot shaft has a groove cut into it at the end of the shaft . The kit's on the market come with new bushing etc. and come with a flat washer with a bend in it to keep it all from falling off . I was told to bend this washer over on one side , can a "C " clip be also put on for good measure ? Did they originally have just a "C" clip on the end of the shaft to keep the shift linkage , and pivot from falling off ? I wonder if there's room enough to use both the bent washer , and a "C " clip ?

On my '55 my powder coat'r took it off and didn't return the clip or washer. So I just machined a washer to keep it solid and went to a hardware store and bought a c-clip.

Tomorrow we will install the S/S dual exhaust , and the 2 long P/S hoses and generator / pump belt . the 54" belt was to short so I now have a 55" belt . Maybe we can get to the Radiator support , and radiator . Today I tapped out the tiny holes in the steel flange on the brass heater core so the tiny screws can hold on the heater core flange . With that shift pivot that's cool you machined your own washer . We are losing talent like that every day , Dom
