    56 Chevy truck gage cluster

Does the speedo cable need to be unhooked at the the back of the gage cluster housing or the transmission before taking the cluster out of the dash?

Yes the speedo cable on the back of the speedometer of course. The other way would be much more difficult.

typically you can loosen the holddown nut on the speedo cable, at the back of the speedo, and then remove the dash cluster
