    Jerry,
I am looking for some cars to support the Concourse that
    Jim Moore works on
organizing every year. He has asked me to see if I can
    gather some participants
    for the Muscle Car class.

Would you forward this to any of your friends that you
    think might have a
"Muscle Car Era" factory correct muscle car? Vette folks
    too. There is a
separate class for Corvettes and that is not me. I will
    forward the Vette
responses to the guy gathering the Vette entries. I would
    appreciate any and
all help you can give me in this as I don't know anyone
    with muscle cars that
are any where near showable I suppose that means 'Cudas,
    Mustangs, Chevelles,
Malibus, GTO, Camero, and what ever else you can come up
    with.

Looking for six to seven factory correct muscle cars to
    participate in the
Concourse D'elegance at the Palos Verdes Country Club.
    Chrome under the hood is
OK but the rest of the car should be factory correct if you
    want to get into the
    judging.

Deviations from factory correctness are OK if you don't
    want to be judged.
Dealer options, variations on racing stripes are probably
    OK too. The show is
not looking for blowers sticking out of the hood or
    radically customized body
    work or paint.

    Date: September 19, 2004
Time: Show up between 6:00am and 9:00am and stay until
    about 4:00pm
Cost: FREE, Gratis, no dough, etc.
Parking: Free and there are places for trailers too
    Registration: Pre-registration only
    Deadline: August 15th, 2004
Contact: Michael Patterson at 310-616-8409, pager
    310-299-0048, or e-mail:

California Emissions Exemption Repeal Bill Will
    Be Considered by
    Senate Appropriations Committee on August 2nd;
    Final Showdown

    URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (HEARING UPDATE)
California Emissions Exemption Repeal Bill Will
    Be Considered by
    Senate Appropriations Committee on August 2nd;
    Final Showdown
As you are aware, the California Assembly and
    now the Senate
Transportation Committee have passed A.B. 2683,
    the legislation that
would repeal the state?s current rolling
    emissions-test exemption
for vehicles 30 years old and older. A wide
    array of business and
    environmental interests aggressively support
    this bill. The measure
would repeal the current pro-hobbyist exemption
    and replace it with
a law requiring the permanent testing of all
    1976 and newer model
vehicles. On Monday, August 2nd, the Senate
    Appropriations
Committee has scheduled a hearing on this bill.
    If the
Appropriations Committee passes this bill, the
    entire Senate likely
will approve it as well and will send to the
    Governor for his
signature. Make no mistake, our backs are
    against the wall!
Call Members of the Senate Transportation
    Committee (List Attached)
Immediately to Request Their Opposition to A.B.
    2683
Even if you have called or e-mailed
    previously,
it is critical that you make your feelings
    known once again!
Existing law in California exempts all
    vehicles 30 years old and
    older from emissions testing.
    California?s current emissions testing
    exemption recognizes the
minimal impact of vehicles 30 years old and
    older on vehicle
    emissions and air quality.
Vehicles 30 years old and older constitute a
    very small portion of
the overall vehicle population and are a poor
    source from which to
    look for emissions reduction.
    Antique and classic vehicles are
    overwhelmingly well-maintained
and infrequently driven (a fraction of the
    miles each year as a
    new vehicle).
    Legislators, regulators and stationary source
    polluters are
feeling the heat from a failed effort to meet
    air quality goals
and are looking for a convenient scapegoat.
    The old car hobby
should not carry the burden of their
    mistakes!

    Hi there,

I live in Los Gatos, California and am having a 50th
    birthday party
with a 50's theme. I am looking for a few 50's cars to
    park in my driveway
for a couple of hours during the party. Do you know
    someone who would be
willing to rent his/her car for a couple of hours. The car
    would not be
driven, sat in or even touched. I would love to have a 55
    or 56, and a 57 Chevy.
Also, since I am a Corvette lover (I have a new one
    unfortunately) I would
love to have a Corvette also. I am not limiting it to
    Chevys, any 50s car will
    do.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in "renting"
    their car to
park in my driveway, please contact me.

    Thank you,

    Dear Jim,
By all means, you have my express permission to reprint it
    and circulate it with
    the following conditions:
If any modifications or endorsements are added, then my
    name and email address
must be completely removed, especially the first and last
    paragraph that I
    authored.

    Points of Order:
    1. An email and snail mail copy has already been sent to
    Jay Leno, who was
    supportive on this issue previously.
    2. The letter was already emailed to all members of the
    "Senate Transportation
Committee", but you could add a "Petition Signature Sheet"
    to my letter and
either hand deliver it to your Senators' local office or
    mail it.

I've been around long enough to remember the mandated "Nox
    Device" and the
problems that it caused with performance and fuel economy.
If we do not fight this legislation, than post - 1974 cars
    could be required to
have additional "Emmision Control Devices" installed, and I
    do not have to
explain the ramifications of that to folks like you, who
    are very knowledgeable
    in automotive mechanics.

    Sincerely,

    Robert A. Rouge`

    re: Early Chevy V scripts.
In 1956 If you had a V-8 in your car there was a Silver V
    on the hood and trunk.
In 57, same thing, only, if the car was a Bel-Air the V
was gold, if it was a
150 or a 210 model theV was Silver. All of the 6 cylinder
cars had no V on the
hood or trunk. I remember when the 56 came out with the Vs
    on the trunk and
hood, Cadillac owners were so upset they threatened to sue
    Chevrolet feeling the
V was only for Cadillacs. I also heard from some guy his
    buddy ordered a 57
Bel-Air "from the factory" with Gold inserts in the quarter
    panels of his 57 Bel
Air. This of course is not true. Nowadays you can't tell
    what kind of car it
is because they all look the same! Anyone want a 62 Bel
    Air sport coupe 409?

    From:"Don Kent" <dkent@socal.rr.com>

    Hi Bob,

    For Warren Kramer:

You're probably going to get a gazillion answers to your
    question about
the differences between gold and silver badging on the '57
    Chevy. I've
re-anodized old pieces from junkyards, as well as redoing
    the N.O.S.
badging on some very high-dollar cars. I've also
    re-anodized some reproduction
parts. The "V"s are the most successful of the modern
    reproduction
parts. Get N.O.S. of the other stuff! Anyway, here's the
    deal: Gold
(anodized aluminum) was used on the BelAirs only. The
    silver parts were used on
the 210 and 150 (a lot less of them on the 150). Modern
    reproduction parts
are almost all brass-plated pot metal, and don't look like
    the originals at
all. There are some aluminum pieces available that are
    touted as being
identical to the originals, but they're not. The GM pieces
    were stamped and the
repros are poured. The composition of the metal is a bit
    different,
too. Also, the originals were "bright-dipped" (an anodizing
    technique) and
then gold anodized with a very slight pinkish cast to them.
    The repros are
only anodized, if they are the aluminum type. They don't
    have the same
luster as the originals, either. By the way, all N.O.S.
    pieces are slightly
different from each other, colorwise, due to the small
    differences in anodizing
chemical (acid) dye lots. Also, a trick you may try on
    the
rear-quarter crest is to buy one of the shiny repros that
    are available now. Then
pick up a rattle-can of Krylon "Matte-Finish" clear. Hold
    the can about a
foot away from the crest and "fog" it with the Krylon.
    When it dries (which
won't be long) it looks very much like the original
    aluminum piece. If
you have a lot of money . . . look for the real ones!
    Putting the crests
in is another whole problem. Just remember though, NONE
    of the parts should
be shiny if you don't get N.O.S.

    Hope this helps.

Check out the frame offered by Art Morrison in Fife, WA.
This is a complete frame with sport car handling.

Imagine having a car that has
    the classic looks of
    a Tri-5 Chevy combined with
    the ability to handle
curves like a slot car, stop
    on a dime and
    accelerate like a rocket.
    It;s easy when an Art
    Morrison GT Sport chassis is
    part of the
    equation.
    With all of the appropriate
    mounts jig welded onto
    the chassis building your own
    Tri-5 sports car is
    a project that most competent
    do-it-yourselfers
    can accomplish in their own
    garage. Little or no
    welding is required to
    install this chassis under
    your classic Chevrolet.

    Bob

I heard you speak to a group a few years ago about tips on
getting a job. My wife is returning to
the work force after many years of taking care of our young
children. I would sure appreciate the
information you gave out about getting a job. As I
remember, you told it "like it is". I bet there is
a lot of people on you list that would like that
    information also.

    Bill Hoskens

Editor's note. Bill, I am going to send the information to
you as a private e-mail. Finding a job is
serious business. If a person doesn't have a job, it is
hard to be in the old car hobby.

I hesitate to put this information out on the list because
it is controversial . The information works but some
people are not going to like it. I invite list members to
    comment whether they
think putting out this information is appropriate. I
spent a lot of years working in industry and during that
time I hired over 200 people. I also observed other
peoples hiring decisions. I don't think I am telling any
secrets but when it comes to getting hired, LIFE IS NOT
FAIR. If life was fair, the most qualified person would
ALWAYS get the job. That rarely happens. There are ways
to improve your chances of getting hired and ways to hurt
    your chances of getting hired.

Here is a small sample of the information from a recent job
hunt of the wife of a friend of mine. It was the same
situation as yours. His wife was returning to the work
force after their kids started school. She was well
qualified for the jobs she was seeking but did not get any
offers. She told me about her lack of offers and asked
what she could do to get an offer. The jobs she was
looking for had lots of people interviewing for the job.

The key to getting a job in this situation is to be
remembered from the interview. How can you do that? In
her case, she decided to die her hair red. She had it
professionally done and it looked great. Her husband wants
her to keep it that color but she is not sure about that.
    Did it work?

She got a job offer on her first interview and is now
    working.
