ididit steering column short?

My 56 has an ididit steering column and painless wiring kit. It recently started to blow the brake light fuse. I had read something that there is an issue with some of the tilt columns stripping a wire and causing a short. Anyone had this issue before?

The Chinese columns have those and many more issues. I've never seen an issue like that with an Ididit. Could be possible but I would look elsewhere for the short.

the last time the fuse blew it had a small amount of smoke coming out of the column.
