    power glide to 400 ??

Hi there, I hope I'm posting this in the right section. so my situation is I have a 2 speed power glide in my 55 4door bel air that has a 235 6cyl the engine was just rebuilt and has about 400 miles on it. It works great, but i want to eventually tow my airstream trailer around with my bel air. I know the power glide will tow it but i don't want to be stuck going up a hill and not make it..so with all that said ....I heard i can put in a 400R trans...is this true or a ton of work and money ? any suggestions would help..thanks in advance...

have a turbo 400 in my car, easy swap. can buy a kit to use the stock mounting locations but i still installed a crossmember. whichever transmission you use, even the powerglide i would install an auxillerly trans oil cooler if pulling a trailer.

Never heard of a 400R Any later model trans will trquire an adaptor kit to hook to a 235.

    Do you mean a TH400 or a 700-R4?

The TH400 will certainly be up to the task.

The 700-R4 will be if you tow in 3rd gear, not 4th.

Either one will require an adapter so that it will bolt to a 235.
