Post Shop Pictures New and old

Would like to see some pictures or even talk about your shop/garage and what and why you did certain things to them. I am in the process of putting our house on the real estate market and after it is sold, i will be building a shop at our new location, right now i plan on going 36x48 with 14ft addition on one side that will be open to the main shop, the walls to the eaves will be 16ft which will also allow me to have a loft for storage and with one shop door being big enough to store a boat or RV in the future. the other shop door will be 8x16.

Re: Shop Pictures New and old

Hi Marty. Sounds like a really nice shop you're planning. When I move I plan to build one that can handle a lift, and have room for several cars. 36x48 is really a nice size...you can almost go two cars deep that way. I think it would be really nice to be able to do that.

My current shop is 26x44 and I wish it was a little deeper for the equipment along the wall. It's ok, since the car is only 17 feet long, but another 4-5 feet would have sure been nice. I'm adding on another 34x38 foot section for a "clean" area where I'll only assemble and store my cars, and do some mechanicin' in them. The other area of the shop is way too dirty from grinding, plasma cutting, and nasty stuff like that when I do chassis and body work. Plan to get started soon.

Here's my current shop, which you have seen The addition will be to the right side in this pic.

Re: Shop Pictures New and old

Yeah, I'm trying to get it finished before I paint the car. I already have HOA approval for it, just need to get final plans to the building department and get a building permit. Then I have to get the contractors lined up. I built most of my current shop, except for concrete, brick, and drywall. I did all the framing, insulation, wiring, gas line, siding, and painting myself, and helped a friend with roofing.

I may farm more of the addition out, depending on how much time I want to spend on it.

If I had the room, I'd want a shop that was two cars deep and a paint booth. Of course, I don't have the room or the money
