No, it's much better. It's more or less the same as a CPP500 box if you want to compare.

Thanks, main reason I ask is because I am trying to find headers that will work with my setup. Lots of them mention the 605 box. So...if they show to fit a 605, I am thinking they would work with mine. I can't imagine the 605 being any larger.

New here,, trying to determine where I can ask about header application...

Delphi 600 and CPP500 steering boxes are roughly the same fit wise to a 605. Slightly smaller than a 605, but their biggest dimensions are in slightly different spots.

If a header mfr. says theirs will fit a 605, 95% of the time it will fit a Delphi 600 or CPP500.

A few years a go I replaced a 605 with a CPP500. On existing headers that cleared the 605, I had to put a flat spot in the #3 tube using a dolly. No big deal with uncoated headers.

However, every car is a little different clearance-wise, and my engine is moved forward 3/4"

My 396 with headers clears my CPP 500 box and thats all, very close but it works fine.

Is there really a noticeable difference between a 600 box and a 500 that are on the market today? Can any one document one really being better than the other?

If you are talking about a 600 box from Borgeson or a 500 box from CPP, they are functionally the same thing. So if there's a difference, something is wrong with one of them, or the installation.

there apparently is a difference in length of the box itself compared to the 500. See the pdf. there are two options for steering columns.
So it would not be a header issue as much as it is the above.

Maybe I missed it, but there's nothing in those instructions that shows a difference in length between 605, 600, and 500. except they show different part numbers. Thing is, the descriptions are misleading since a 670 and a Delphi box are the same thing.

They all force a situation where only a portion of the steering column protrudes through the firewall. That means that a minimum length rag joint is needed for any of them.
