NEW TRUNK FLOOR & WIDE GM STYLE TUBS

Well, we began at the back and are working our way forward on the 57 that's in the shop. Eventually, this 57 2 Door HT will have all new floors. I just thought that I would comment on the fit and finish of the parts that I purchased from Woody's Hotrodz. Living in the Dallas area, we have the benefit of having the warehouse for one of the two major suppliers of sheetmetal replacement parts and that Woody's is a dealer for them so I could order on line, pay no tax and pick it up eliminating freight.

NICE STUFF! It's about time someone made the wide tubs. I wonder with everyone already doing it if there's a market left, though. LOL

Only when provoked..................................... I did get out there this morning to do some prep for the driver tub.

Nick, is there a weld joint between the tub and the trunk side wall - or am I seeing something else in the photo?

I made a comment on the other board about whether this was a "cut and weld" deal on new pieces like everyone used to do, and many still do, and you commented back. I did see such a thing on that site - the owner got his pieces from Resto-World. This one seems to take it one further, yet another configuration. Maybe the deal I saw was a third party deal where someone did a traditional mini-tub using new pieces - done off the car before the guy purchased the parts.

Rick the tubs pictured are from Woody's Hotrodz (Golden Star parts). The tub can be done in two ways that I can determine. First, the tub has a flanged edge that is almost 3/4" wide that would allow the tub to be lapped over existing materia, spot welded or what ever was decided. Second, the traditional method of butt welding the new to old by trimming off the lap joint could be done. The floor for the trunk has been formed (no cut and paste) to mate up very well. I did a dry fit yesterday (tough by ones self) and all seems pretty good from my vantage point. After it warms up a pinch today, I'll begin prep for the tail pan mating surfaces in the body and the trunk floor. I use a combination of short self tapping sheetmetall screws and Clecos to hold everything in check during my fit up process. Once all fit, trimmed and ready then I'll begin the spot welding process where applicable and but weld in the rest of the items. We took all of the seat back brace out and I spent a couple of hours trimming them up to fit in their new home.
