JT, thanks. One issue with matching the interior color to the exterior color is if you ever decide to change the exterior color you're very limited. My interior guy brought an "orangeish" piece of leather he thought would look good. However, neither of us liked it. I know tan is pretty neutral but I really like some of the new car interiors.

Do you have pics of your interior?

Here's what I consider a nice, clean look. The last one is a custom Camaro interior by the Recovery Room.

I have thought about bringing in the orange into the interior on the dash valence and the top of the console. Thanks for the photoshops, they really help! One of the reasons I had the bottom of the dash charcoal is so it flowed with the top of the door panels. Can you do one with an orange valence? Also, note the little quarter circle on the door....I thought I'd carry the valence into the door panel.

It seems like if I made the beltline trim orange, the TOP of the dash would have to be orange, not the bottom. The way you show it, the colors "cross" at the door jamb. I'm kinda liking the padded charcoal leather dash.

Nick, what would you do differently? I see a lot of cars with all tan interiors, and I though the charcoal and perforated leather would help break that up. We looked at using an orangish leather in the interior but it just didn't work. I'd appreciate your thoughts.
It may be the monitor here, but the "TAN" you depict seems almost white or a pail cream in color. When I think of tan, I think of an old baseball glove that has been well kept, not brown nor the orangish tan but more like a sadle tan. I do like the design but just cant wrap my arms around the starknes of the tan - to much contrast I think.

Thanks Rocky! Seeing it sure helps decide. I do like the way the beltline charcoal flows into the dash better in that last desgn. The side panels actually won't have the diagonal bars in them, as we decided not to do that. I do like the look though.

In your second picture, with the orange inserts in the door panels, I like the idea of bringing the color in. However, I'm not sure there's a leather that would match or complement the exterior color. This is the closest thing to "orange" I've ever found:

I agree with NIck's comments. The tan (at least as shown on my monitor) is too light. You can get a darker shade without getting into the "orange" look.

This is similar to the thought that you wouldn't use white to 2 tone with the copper color you've chosen for the exterior of your car.

I also think a 3rd color would make things too busy, especially considering the sculpting.

The few changes I did to mine; Tuck and Roll on the door panel not just vertical pleats, removed the button and seam on the front and rear seats. Finally, I used the darker color on the top of the arm rest instead of using the lighter color. I thought about dirt and just wanted to change it up a little.

Rick, thanks for the comments. You're right on about my thoughts on using white with the orange...it's too "stark" and cheap looking. An ivory or platinum color works much better and makes it look richer.

As for the tan color, the ones shown are two different colors. There is actually more of a difference between them than it looks like in the pics. I was starting to lean toward the lighter one, but it sounds like maybe the darker one works better. It's close to the color of my caddy seats now but a little more brownish. These pics might show the color difference a little better. I hate to go much darker than this. Notice the tan in the pics above is a lot lighter than this.

I also wondered about being too "busy" with another color inside, especially large panels of it. I've shied away from making it too much of a two-tone interior too as I think it would get a little to busy and "dark" with too much charcoal. I think accents of a third color would be nice, but not too much of it.

One thing to keep in mind is the door grab handle "spears" are chrome and they have a walnut wood-grained insert below them. I thought about leaving them wood grain but I'm not so sure about that. I would have to wood grain more than that, and I'd have to add wood to the dash and the console to make it look right.

But wood is maybe not where I want to go with it. I have considered covering the wood-grained pieces with carbon fiber, and add some carbon fiber acents other places inside the car like on the dash and console. The wood makes it look more "luxury" and the carbon fiber is more "sporty" looking. I think carbon fiber is nice looking.

I'm considering making custom dash inserts to match the chrome grab bar spears, as well as some chrome trim pieces on the console. I just want the theme to flow throughout the car.

Here's a new Audi with the carbon fiber. I can get it in other colors if I want to....even orange.

My brother is a wood-worker and he stained this piece of burly maple he sent to me. It's an awesome looking piece of wood, and the grain "moves" when you turn it and it looks almost 3D. He said he could stain it orange if I wanted it and make it thin enough to use as a veneer. Again, not sure I want wood inside the car.

JT, I like your interior colors and design. It does go well with the exterior colors.

One thing I don't want is brown. It's going to be hard to move toward a copperish orange color that complements the exterior orange without getting into browns, imo. I do like this color, but not sure if I'd want it in my Nomad. And I don't want a "pumpkin" orange either.
