Nomad interior beltline trim alignment

Is this as good as it gets? I put the beltline trim on my door and the alignment to the dash is absolutely horrible. I've never noticed this before but it's really bad. I know the door is in the correct position vertically because it matches the fender and the rockers. I replaced the rockers, but there's no way they could be this far off. My cowl and door jamb were solid so I didn't really modify anything there. It's also not very good at the b-pillar, but part of that is that the door sits further outboard than the inner quarter.

Anyone got pics of their Nomads in this area? Madmook?

Not sure what to do to fix this problem, or if it can be fixed. I don't mind modifying the trim if I have to, but it needs to line up with the vent window too.

Looks like I need to move the driver's side molding up about 3/8" and the passenger side up about 1/4" to get them to line up properly with the dash. There's a little "bubble" in the sheetmetal on the door where the screw goes in and it's obviously too low. It actually looks like the molding fits the door better in the up position, but I'm surprised it's that far off. I'm wondering what I might screw up if I move them up.

If I move it, I'll probably have to weld on a couple of small sheetmetal tabs to screw to, or else the screw will end up in the vent window rubber. It's always something. Glad I discovered this now, not later during assembly. This is why you do mockup after mockup.

Has anyone else with a HT or Nomad dealt with this? It looks like it's a common problem based on the pics. I guess the guys in the factory just pushed the trim down to the "bubble", drilled the hole, and put the screw in with no regard to alignment.

Well that was easy....a lot easier than I thought it was going to be anyhow. I wonder why the guys in the pics didn't bother to correct this. It looks a lot better, and I'm glad I found this. Now I hope it doesn't affect the vent window assembly.

The gap is tighter on the driver's side, so I'll have to either cut the dash or the molding to make them even, and to fit the leather wrap and the dash end cap.

In your examples only the red convertible looks like it has a lot of risk on vent window interference.

Of course if you put upholstery over it, you're decreasing the clearance.

I think you'll find a way.
