Someone must have thought it would be cool to match the other gold trim on a 57 Bel Air, like the grille, hood V, Chevy emblem, louver trim.

It would be cooler if it was shiny though.

Who knows, but (to me) they are not a pretty sight! Judging from the back side and over all quality, they were manufactured by someone. These weren't hand painted with the backs masked off. They look like a production piece. They are actually very smooth and shines. A little to shiney. Just a poor color match in my opinion.
I bought a set of chrome rockets at the swap meet this past weekend, they look SOOO much better (to me).

I think most likely paint, although awfully even coating for paint. The finish just looks more like paint than a plated finish and there is no signs of plating on the back side. The back is raw pot metal.

What is their condition, surface finish under unknown gold color? Are they RePops? I have a 57 in process presently and the client is undecided on final look but his original rockets look like they were in the ocean for the last 50 years. So the question is, can, with great sucsess, they be plated?
