Identifaction help, stock vs dropped spindle 567 chevrolet.

What are you looking for to see if your tri-five has stock spindles or dropped spindles? I have heard that a stock spindle will not be centered and a dropped spindle will be, what are your identifying tips.

The stock spindle has a large threaded hole at the top for the backing plate. The dropped spindles don't.

    Here's a stock spindle:

Here's a typical dropped spindle...note the higher location of the spindle on the knuckle:

Pros and cons with the cast in caliper bracket. I don't know what brand the ones pictured are, but they have a cast in steering arm too. They may or may not have put the steering arm in the right place, don't know. The other typical spindles with cast caliper brackets have problems with getting full steering travel, though this can be mostly corrected. With either one, you're stuck with the calipers (and rotors) that the spindle/brackets are made for (small metric rotors and calipers). Compare that to a spindle with a bolt on caliper bracket. It can wear just about any caliper with a custom bracket. And various rotors too. So there's a lot more flexibility. On the other hand the small rotors/calipers do stop better than stock drums.
