Here is the deal of the millennium for someone restoring a '56 Chevy. I
will sell you a complete 265 powerpack engine and Powerglide
transmission for $100. The engine is tired but ran good when removed.
It is totally complete except for generator and power steering unit --
i.e. includes starter, 4 bbl carb, distributor, coil, etc. etc. (Air
cleaner is not original). I was told the engine has been bored to 283
but I can't prove that. The Powerglide trans has less than 10,000 miles
since a complete rebuild. Why only $100? Because I have tried
unsuccessfully for over a year to sell this package; I've had lots of
interest from Midwest and East Coast guys but no one wants to pay the
freight to have it shipped cross country. I've had no interest in it
here in California. It's wrapped up in black plastic in my driveway and
my wife wants it gone, gone, gone! The local salvage yard will take it
off my hands but I'd rather have it go to a restorer who will put it
back into a 5-6-7 Chevy. Here's the catch (there's always a catch, you
know): You have to come get it. I can provide a hoist. I live near
Carmel, CA, which is about 120 miles south of San Francisco, on the
coast. Not a bad place to visit. E-mail me if interested.

Did GM make stainless steel window garnish moulding in 55, or for that
matter in any year? I had mine chromed and it has come to my attention
that
they may be available in stainless steel. I had never heard that so I
thought I would throw it out to the list and find out. Thanks.

Does anyone out there KNIT ANGORA dice that hang off the mirror? I mean,
like the 50's dice, not the dice with the little white dots pasted on,
which are all over the place these days. I mean, the angora knitted, with
the spots knitted in white angora. Anyone know where they can be found?
Thank you!!!

Hey guys,
I've got some odds and ends parts here that I would like to get rid of.

I'm selling everything here as one lot. All of them have defects or need
restoration. Included is: 1 '55-'56 chevy horn (doesn't work), '57
original
engine fan, '55 day/night mirror (glass needs resilvering and chrome bezel
needs replating), 2 6cyl fuel pumps for rebuilding (one has a glass filter
bowl on it!), 1 6cyl water pump (leaks past the bearing), 1 original '56
T-3
headlight (low beam doesn't work), 1 '55 solid mount generator. I would
like
to get $30 for everything here. Shipping would be extra.

Bob, this is your agent again still working on your date with "DOLLY'. I
now have digital pictures (attached) of the 57 'power pac' engine and
transmission. This engine is one of the nicest, original stock engines
that I have ever seen. The only thing that does not have original factory
paint are the exhaust manifolds and valve covers that were repainted when
they were removed to replace the gaskets that were leaking. If anyone has
a need for a excellent 283 power pac engine, code 'FC', please email for
pictures or call me. Help me sell these parts before my wife runs me off;
she can't get her car in the garage. Thanks again and always remember 'GOD

could
have an adverse effect. Who do you think is going to be in most vulnerable
position? Opec, that has more money than could possibly ever be imagined,
or the American people that MUST have fuel?
My humble opinion is that maybe we should all quietly cut back on our fuel
consumption as much as possible (lower the demand), instead of possibly
pis***g off a VERY big dog. I also think someone should sell me a nice 57

not
put on NEARLY the amount of miles a year that Americans do. Many people in
the U.S. put on more miles in just a couple days driving to & from work,
than
the Longest distance across some of these countries! Put it in perspective,

compare the size of these countries with the size of OURS !!!! C'mon
Rick,
You can't compare these countries to ours!!!!!!!!! This is America, NOT

For Marc who asked about one bench seat

You're close ! In 1957 the 150 came as a Utility Sedan with only the
front bench seat. It had a listed luggage capacity below the sight line
of 31CF. It was the 1512 model. Can't tell ya' about 56-55 years

Never saw the definitive answer to why did GM go from the 150 series to
210 and then Bel Air.
Was there any logic for why the models jumped or did the 150-210 refer to
something?

For the world traveler who wanted a California show the Labor Day Cruise
in Orange County is neat but is not strictly tri-fives, more rods and
customs - but the cars are awesome!

Hi Bob & All
Here in Australia we are worried about fuel hitting $1.00 a LITRE
(4.4lt-1Gal) Average wage is about 36Kpa.
Currently we have a scandel going on with servos (gas stations) mixing in
20% paint thinner because it has less imort duty and fogging it to us as
unleaded with a higher margin. (no discount their not that generous)
However $1Aus=60cUS yesterday so if Uall want to comon down its a good
time!
I guess I may leave the 235 in and the 350 out, Maybe not (just won't
drive
her)!!
All the best from down under!

Bob,

On a recent list you asked about the above book and Pat Chappell.
Pat & Dick Chappell are members of the Mid-Atlantic Nomad Association,
of which I am a member.
I understand our club, which is over 25 years old, is the oldest single
body style Auto club in America.
Pat & Dick own a stock '56 Nomad and a stock '59 Impala
convertable. They livein Deleware. They also belong to
Baltimore's Best Classic
Cevy Club as do I. The BBCCC is hosting the BOW TIE/LATE GREAT/
YESTERYEARS NATIONAL CONVENTION, June 15-18 at the Hunt Valley Marriott
Hunt Valley MD. Hunt Valley is about 20 mins. from downtown Baltimore
and the Inner
Harbor. Anyone interested in details to attend, E-mail April Grammont
(aprilg57@aol.com). He can also give information on advertising in the
program for this event, for anyone interested in promoting their company or
products and
services.
Bob...once again Kudos on your hard work to promote the hobby

Editor's note. A lot depends on the quality of the paint job wanted. At
the low end I
think MAACO does the best job for the money. If you want the standard
paint job
like the ones insurance companies pay for, I think Blake and Nation in
Orange does
the best job. At the high end, I would use Huntington Beach Bodyworks.
Their work is
very good but very expensive.
