Several weeks ago, several members posted the names of shops they
recommended to repair car radios.

If your members would be so kind, please forward your recommendations one
more time. I have a dead radio from a 68 Corvette and I'd like to keep the
car all original.

Thanks.

Ebay information. Ebay asks that you forward the

you in a subsequent e mail that it is bogus.I used to
have an e mail address for my Ebay name. That is now

displaying a rear quarter or fin from a 57 Belair. They don't have any
idea where to start to find what they need. If interested, I can forward
your or whomever's Email to them, and they can take it from there. My

Bob

Yes I get the phoney ebay and paypal emails that are intended to get the
targeted individual to give the scammer account information. Ebay and
paypal will
never ask for account information by providing a LINK in the email. I get
them
at least once a month and they almost always do a really good job of
counterfeiting the official ebay format, so well that the only difference
is the
presence of the LINK. If you think an email is a spoof, phisher, or a hoax:
forward
it to spoof@ebay.com and they will investigate it. Again, NEVER click on a
LINK to respond to anyone who asks for you to give them your information.
If you
have done so, immediately contact ebay or paypal and CHANGE your PASSWORD.
I
hope this helps some members avoid problems with their accounts.

BE AWARE and BE SAFE

Imagine: You walk across the
parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. Then you lock
all your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE.
Habit! You look into the rear-view window to back out of your
parking space and you notice a piece of paper, some sort of
advertisement stuck to your rear window. So, you shift into PARK,
unlock your doors and jump out of your vehicle to remove that paper
(or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view... when you reach
the back of your car, that is when the car-jackers jump out of
nowhere ... jump into your car and take off -- your engine was
running, your purse is in the car, and they practically mow you down
as they speed off in your car.

BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME Just drive away and remove the paper
that is stuck to your window later ... and be thankful that you
read this email and that you forwarded it to your friends.

Bob,

Thanks so much for the recent postings of items I have had for sale on your

list. Unfortunately, I only sold the intake/carburetor/oil bath air
cleaner
lot of merchandise and the other items remain for sale.

My client, Bob Maurer, has full (5 wheels) sets of original Chevy wheels
1957
- 14" and 1956 - 15". We listed them on ebay with a $300 reserve price
with
corresponding full sized wheel covers but they did not sell. I thought
these
were very reasonably priced but I suppose that shipping is a major
obstacle.

Likewise, the 1957 original 283 cubic inch Power Pak motor/Powerglide
transmission lot eBay item 2460247563
did not sell. All the numbers match among the heads, intake
manifold,
block, Powerglide transmission and the differential housing.

We put this up with the reasonable price of $2500. The only thing wrong
with
this engine is that it does not presently have pistons installed, but
everything else is there -- heads rebuilt, all journals ground and the
cylinders
bored out. This would be an excellent package for someone wanting a
totally
authentic, 1957 drive train for their all-original restoration.

He also has another 1956 four barrel intake set up with the original 1956
intake, four barrel and oil bath for the reasonable price of $300. These
were
all taken out of cars he rebuilt for people and he has had them for years.

Interested list members can contact Bob Maurer at (812) 925-3844. He needs

the money, he just bought a beautiful, brand new 16' Crestliner bass boat.
I
thought I could move some stuff for him on eBay but we didn't do very well.

Please tell him I told you about these items for sale.

Bob rightly warned us all:

"There are a lot of scams going on and using E-Bay as the bait. You may
get
an e-mail telling you E-Bay wants you to "update" your account. If you
click on the web address given, you will be asked to supply all sorts of
personal information, such as your credit card number.

DON'T DO IT. IT IS A SCAM"

eBay very carefully guards its customer account info, and encourages anyone
who receives a suspicious email that appears to come from them to:
spoof@eBay.com. They will investigate, so you need to send the entire
email
(use your "forward" button, rather than cutting and pasting it into a new
email) so they can review the header information and try to trace it to the
source.

Similar scams seeming to come from PayPal, BidPay, and other online payment
services have really been coming around a lot lately. I recently got a
message that appeared to come from my bank, asking me to log on to a
website
and enter my personal information (including my checking account ATM PIN
number!) to "update" their records. I really wonder how many folks fall
for
these and end up losing big?!? It's a scary cyber-world out there!

Sandy Pierce told us about the Hagerty poll for the best movie car:

How about the Hollywood Knights (starring Tony Danza and Michelle Pfiefer):
1957 Chevy 210 sedan "Project X" built by Popular Hot Rodding Magazine?
That beautiful yellow blown street pounder was the inspiration for my own
Classic Chevy project. I did a write-in vote for it. ;>)

people are asked to vote for their favorite movie car. I wouldn't want
this list to pack the ballot box, or anything like that........

You might want to " VIEW RESULTS" for "other" car choices in the
Hagerty survey. It looks like Hagerty has bitten off more then they can
eat as there seems to be a lot more "other" chaises then the basic
listings. This is a very interesting survey, I suggest all the list
members go there and make there "other" choice for our 55-57 Chevy's in the

Hello Bob , I want to respond to the guy wanting a new tag for his
tri-five . If he will email me I may be able to help . Also Bob , you
mentioned ebay scamer's pretending to be from ebay . Ebay calls them
spoof e-mail's and ebay wants all such scam's reported . There is many
scam's running on ebay and the monkey ad's also .. Enclosed auto
trailers is one . The seller will all ways be out of USA and insist on
half of selling price sent Western Union and rest when delivered .
Problem is , the trailer is never delivered and using Western Union or
Money Gram you have NO RECOURSE ! Another scam is buying a classic auto
. The buyer is all ways out of USA and will send you a cashiers check .
They insist you Western Union the extra they send you to a shipper .
DON'T fall victim to this scam . The trick is , they want you to Western
Union the shipper immediately meaning you use your cash . But the
Cashiers check is COUNTERFEIT ! I have in my possession two, yes "2"
counterfeit cashiers check's one for $12,000.00 and the other for
$9,000.00 . Please Please DON'T fall for this scam . No I did not get
scamed, but I sure could have been . I still have my 1957 Cadillac and I
still have the title .By the way , I still want to sell my 1957 cadillac
, oops , it is not a Chevy but , it is a " 57 " ! Thanks Bob and I hope
every one reads this and pays attention because believe it or not , it
is happening . There was a time when Cashiers check's were as good as
cash, if you do except a cashiers check, treat it like a personal check
, wait until it clears .I have a friend in IL . He told me of a lady
that sold her deceased husbands 1956 chevy for $9,000.00 . The buyer
came with a Cashiers Check , a trailer/pickup , loaded the 56 left the
lady with a counterfeit cashiers check . Be Carefull . Thanks Bob ,
Ernie in Nebraska

Editor's note. Ernie makes an excellent point here. A cashier's check is
NOT the same as cash. Also, you can stop payment on a cashier's check.
Something I did not know until recently. There is one type of payment
that you can not stop payment on. That is a Postal Service Money Order.

In answer to your request about scams that appear to be from ebay, my
answer is yes. In fact since I have been with ebay, my junk email has
gone through the roof. It is almost not worth it with all the scam and
junk email I get.

I delete it all but my virus scan finds attached viruses all the time on
these email. So I once again advise all to get a good anti virus program

Hi Bob,

Does anyone on the list know the preferred way to remove license plate
stickers? I have a pair of 1956 California plates, which were in use up
until 1962. In 1956 they had no sticker, but one was added for each year
thereafter until '62. I have a '56 and want to have those plates assigned
to the car, but I've got to remove the stickers first. I've seen plates
that had the sticker removed, but don't know the method used. Since there
will be no sticker I don't want to damage the plate in that area (or any
other!). They used School bus Yellow paint (read that "cheap") and I'm
afraid that heat will damage it. What to do?

Thanks,

Please mark your calender for Aug 14, 2004 when we will have another "Meet

I average about 1 scam message a day. Please listen to these 3 warning
about scams.

1. NEVER give out personal financial information over the phone or
Internet.

2. NEVER pay to win any prize.

3. There is NOBODY in Nigeria that has money they want you to keep for
them.

If you have ANY question if something is a scam, PLEASE contact me before
you act.

Would you like to strike back at telemarketers? Try this. Get the
telemarketer's phone number. Then call up stock brokers/mutual fund sales
people. Tell them you want to buy their products. They will ask you your
net worth and how much you make each year. Tell them your net worth is 500
million and you make 25 million each year. Give these stock sales people
the phone number of the telemarketers. That number will get phone calls
forever.

As some of you might know, I am a history buff. I created a VCR cassette
with the following films. If any one want a copy please let me know.

THE 7 FILMS ARE:

1. "TANKS BY THE TRUCKLOAD"
THIS FILM SHOWS HOW AUTOMOBILE PLANTS WERE CONVERTED TO BUILD
TANKS.

2. "AS THE EARTH SPINS"
THIS FILM SHOWS WHY AND HOW SHIPBOARD COMPASSES WERE DEVELOPED
AND BUILT. A SHIPBOARD COMPASS SEEMS SO SIMPLE BUT IS VERY
COMPLICATED BECAUSE OF THE MASS OF METAL OF THE SHIP AND BECAUSE
THE SHIP IS NEVER LEVEL.

3."BODY OF A BOMBER"
THIS FILM SHOWS HOW THE BODY OF THE MARAUDER BOMBER WAS BUILT. NO
COMPUTERS WERE AVAILABLE AT THE TIME AND KEEPING TRACK OF ALL THE
REQUIRED PARTS WAS VERY VERY COMPLICATED.

4."ANSWER TO THE AXIS"
THIS FILM SHOW HOW THE US INDUSTRIAL MIGHT BUILT THE TRUCKS NEEDED
TO WIN THE WAR. IT CONTAINS CAPTURED GERMAN FILM SHOWING GERMANY
TELLING THE WORLD, THE U.S. COULD NEVER MATCH THEIR INDUSTRIAL
POWER.

5. "THE BOFORS GUN"
THIS FILM SHOWS HOW THE BOFORS 40 MM ANTI AIRCRAFT GUN WAS BUILT
AND HOW IT WAS USED TO DESTROY ENEMY AIRCRAFT.

6."300000 STRONG"
THIS FILM SHOW HOW THE US AUTO COMPANIES BUILT 300,000 TRUCK OF EVERY
KIND AND DESCRIPTION TO AID THE WAR EFFORT. OVER 300 DIFFERENT TYPES
OF TRUCKS WERE BUILT. EVERY TRUCK TYPE FROM JEEP TO AMBULANCE.

7. "AFTERMATH OF WAR PRODUCTION"
THIS FILM SHOWS THE SERIOUS PROBLEMS THE U.S. FACED AT THE END OF THE
WAR. MASSIVE UNEMPLOYMENT WHEN DEFENSE CONTRACTS WERE
CANCELLED. FORMER SOLDIERS COME HOME FROM THE WAR AND COULD NOT
FIND A JOB. WOMEN WHO WERE THE MAIN WORK FORCE IN DEFENSE PLANTS
WERE CHANGED FOREVER BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE. MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF
WAR EQUIPMENT WAS NO LONGER NEEDED AND IT WAS EXPENSIVE TO STORE.

IF YOU HAVE A FRIEND OR RELATIVE THAT WAS AN ADULT DURING WORLD
WAR 2, I KNOW THEY WILL HAVE AN EMOTIONAL REACTION TO VIEWING THIS.
TODAY, WE CAN NOT RELATE TO THE FEAR OF A TELEGRAM FROM THE
WAR DEPARTMENT OR THE PROBLEMS WE WOULD HAVE IF OUR RATION
STAMPS WERE LOST IN THE MAIL. MOST PEOPLE TODAY DO NOT KNOW WHAT A
GOLD STAR ON A WINDOW MEANS. I GUARANTEE YOU THAT ANY ONE THAT
HAS LIVED THROUGH WORLD WAR 2 WILL WANT TO SEE THIS. EVEN IF YOU
DID NOT LIVE THROUGH WORLD WAR 2, THIS WILL SHOW YOU HOW
DIFFERENT WE WERE WHEN OUR SURVIVAL WAS NOT ASSURED. THIS WILL
GIVE YOU THE LOOK AND FEEL OF 1943.
