hey bob, I would like to get some info on using a chevy
caprice chassis under a
5, 6, 7. I have heard that it can be done with very minor
modifications.having a
coilspring rear, and a modern front end would surely
improve the handling and
the ride immensely. It should be a lot easier than
subframing. Any shoeboxers
that could pass along this info would be deeply
appreciated. thanks

Bob,

Just a short note from one of your readers from Down Under;
Perth Western
Australia. (God’s Country)

I am the proud owner of a 1957 four door sports sedan
matador red in colour,
running a 305tpi & t700 combination. It’s a great drive
car; with an American
history, but is now a right hand drive, air-conditioned
power steering cruiser.
I also have a 1956 four door wagon, the only one in West Oz
that we know of. I
built it over two years for the good wife and as our family
weekender. It runs
a 305tbi & t700, power steering and many GM Holden (Aussie)
parts and running
gear for easy servicing and maintenance.
It’s known as the Hybrid Beast as it’s been built from a
few different makes
of cars to get it to the derivable stage that it is at
today. The motto for the
hybrid beast is The Best Trophies Are Stone Chips

As a reader of your regular post like to say from Down
Under - Thank you
for putting the time and effort in to doing the post. I
enjoy it immensely and
look forward to each issue. Keep up the great work.

Regards
Mike
West Oz.

Bob,

Just wondering what the list members think of this? I have
my 56 Chevy
listed for sale on the Racingjunk.com web site. Today I
received an e-mail
from a gentlemen offering me $12,400 for the car. I
replyed to his e-mail,
a short time later I received the following in another
e-mail:

Thanks for the offered $12,400 accepted. Shipping Bills
and other expenses
are excluded and are to be paid for by our client and
handled by his
Pick-up/delivery agent, except the relevant papers which
you would
prepare
with our client's identity when you had confirmed payment.
My Direct Line is;############.I am presently in UAE to
inspect our
investments in the middle-East,hence my preference for
email as an
efficient means of communication could call and leave a
voice
message for me as i am able to access my messages from
here.again.You would
have to give us a little time to contact our client on
phone again,the amount
in the cashier check he deposited for a cancelled order is
a bit higher than what should be
paid to you. The total amount in the check is meant for all
expenses which
includes the purchase ,pick up and the shipping bills.Hence
we want to
know if we shall carry on with that or if he will make
arrangement for
another check ASAP. He is presently in Australia on a
visit.We will get back to
you soon after we conclude issues with him.
Regards,
Mr.####### #######

I blanked out his phone number and name. Do you think this
is some
type of a scam?????
Thanks!

Bob, please list this question/problem for me.

Thanks,

I am currently installing a BW T5 tranny in my 57. I am
using the
stock clutch linkage setup, etc.
However, the engine has been moved forward 1" with side
mounts., and
since the bell housing clutch ball
bracket is engine mounted, the cross shaft location is
affected.

This puts the cross shaft 1" forward from stock.- right? Do
I have
to lengthen the clutch pedal rod 1" to get the correct
leverage/angle, etc. There is enough
adjustment to get the right freeplay, but I may be
losing leverage/operation? Don't know. Any body out there
do something similar?

Hi Bob
I received this list twice, on different days, just thought
you might want to
know. Regarding your real estate advice, those owning
houses prior to the late
1970's are the ones who have the tremendous house value
increases. That’s not to
say houses are not increasing in value today, my house
doubled in value in the
last 14 years. I like to think (and say) that I (we baby
boomers) are
responsible for the 10fold increase in house values around
the late 1970's for
our parents. Baby boomers pushed up the demand and the
supply did not keep
pace. I digress, back to 55-57 Chevrolets !!!

Joseph M Rock

Editor’s note. I think you are probably right. Thank you
baby boomers and thank you all of the cities that make it
hard and expensive to build a home. That just drives up the
price of present homes.

To Luiz Tinoco from Brazil:

I checked my Chevy Parts cataog published in 1958 for
information on front coil
springs for your 55 Chevy. Chevy had three basic springs
for all models of 55
Chevys. Te standard one was 1630 lb. tension, the heavy
duty (for cars with
Powerglide or taxi type service) was1710 lb. tension, and
the extra heavy duty
for cars like covertibles with Powerglide and air
conditioning was 1875 lb.
tension. I do not have information on the coil diameters of
these different
springs from that parts catalog. Hopefully when you combine
this information
with your existing coil diameter and number of coils, you
can have springs
fabricated.

Bob,

Great list! Hopefully some of the readers can give me an
idea of what a
complete 4spd set up for a 55 - 57 chevy is worth. I am
replacing the 4spd in my 56 with
an automatic and am trying to figure out what the set up is
worth. Its a M-21 close
ratio 4 spd, Hurst Competition plus shifter, new 11" clutch
pressure plate and
flywheel, plus the bell housing, starter and pedal linkage.
Any comments to Rebag9@aol.com.

Thanks,

Eric

As you and many of your list members may know the Woodward
Dream Cruise will be
celebrating it's 10th anniversary this year. This years
celebration will be on
Saturday, August 21, 2004
and is probably the country's single, biggest car activity.
For those who may
not know, the WDC
is an annual event that takes place in Detroit on 16 miles
of Woodward Avenue.
There will be 30,000+ Cruiser cars in the area along with 2
million+ spectators.

I am sharing this with list members because I have 58
parking spaces left at my
Church which is in the Birmingham, MI area and .6 mile easy
walk to Woodward and

the "heart" of the festivities. The cost is $10. each, and
I would prefer to
sell to car clubs, or groups. The $10. includes all day
parking and security for

your cruiser(7am to 9pm) as well as use of our restroom
facilities.

If any list members are interested they can contact Terry
at 248 821 1111.

Hi All-
I just got a voice mail from a Sandra Evans. Her and her
husband want ship their
1967 Vette from the San Fernando Valley area to the Hot
August Nights event.
Anyone heard of others doing this? They are looking to
share a space on a truck

$1000 each way they've
been quoted.
If you can help, call her directly at 805-443-3558 or

I hope one of your list members has an answer for this
question. The answer is for my son's
class in High School.

What Pontiac car in the 60s had a 4 cylinder motor that was
in reality their V8 that was cut in
half to make the 4? This sounds like an old wives tale .
Could it really have been true?

I love this list. Besides the great information provided,
it is a lot of fun. Here is my contribution
to a little fun.

You walk into a place and you see a Harvey Wallbanger. Are
you likely to be in a Home Depot
or somewhere else.

This is an alert I am passing on that may save you from
being ripped off. You write me a check
for $10. When you get the check back from your bank, it is
made out for $1,234. Your signature
is still on the check and it has not been changed. How did
that happen? YOUR CHECK WAS
WASHED. That is someone put tape over your signature and
them put your check in nail polish
remover. All of the ink from your pen on the check, except
you covered signature, is removed.
Now someone writes in$1,234 for the amount of the check.
How do you protect your self from
this. YOU USE A GEL PEN. That ink will not dissolve in
nail polish remover.

The following is courtesy of my friend Fred Vail.

After his death, Osama bin Laden went to heaven. There he
was greeted by
George Washington, who proceeded to slap him across his
face and yell at him,
"How dare you try to destroy the nation I helped
conceive!"
Patrick Henry approached and punched Osama in the nose and
shouted, "You
wanted to end our liberties but you failed."
James Madison entered, kicked Osama in the groin and said,
"This is why I
allowed our government to provide for the common defense!"
Thomas Jefferson came in and proceeded to beat Osama many
times with a long
cane and said, "it was evil men like you that provided me
the inspiration to
pen the Declaration of Independence!"
These beatings and thrashings continued as John Rudolph,
James Monroe and 66
other early Americans came in and unleashed their anger on
the Muslim
terrorist leader.
As Osama lay bleeding and writhing in unbearable pain, an
Angel appeared.
Bin Laden wept and said to the Angel, "This is not what you
promised me!"
The Angel replied, "I told you there would be 72 Virginians
waiting for you
in heaven. What did you think I said?"

The following is courtesy of my friend Mary Brokaw.

While attending a Marriage Seminar on Communication, Tom
and his wife
Peg listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential
that husbands
and wives know the things that are important to each
other." He
addressed the men, "Can you describe your wife's favorite
flower?"

Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently, and
whispered,
"Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn't it?"

The rest of the story is not pleasant....
