Are you sure it's a 9 inch rear? All the Ford rears of those years were not 9 inchers (according to a Mustang expert friend of mine). I sold him a 1970 Mach I (351 engine/auto) and he was surprised that it had a 9 inch in it.. said the smaller rear was more common.

My Ford buddies tell me that Boss 302, 351 and All BBF got a 9 inch, the only difference was 28 spline axles on 351 and 390s, the so called hipo stuff got 31. I have owned several Mustang/ Couger rears and found this true. As far as width 67-70 Mustang, Cougar and 66-69 Fairlane, Torino and Cyclone are 60 inches wide. All the aforementioned got wider after those dates. I can tell just by looking but Hillbilly is correct.
ok, thanx. now, 60 inches wide, from ene of housing, drum, etc?
Dave, that is 60" measured from the wheel mounting surface drum to drum. FWIW...... '67 - '69 Camaro (both the 10-bolt...... And stronger 12-bolt rears from Camaro SS cars) are same width, as are '67 - '69 Firebird rears (which are stronger than 10-bolt Camaro rears of same years and have axle bearing retainer plates rather than C-clips).
Good luck,
Harry

i`m sorry, markm, don`t understand flange with drums on. the housing flange would`nt change drums on or off. so, i take it, 60 inches, outside of drums. thanx! ok, and now, measurment of the `57 factory rear? thanx!
You must have been a Mississippi resident at that time (running a MS tag); what part?
