I love the photos Jim! You're lucky to have photos of your 'past' as you do. I'm pretty certain that's a Trifive pickup on the right hand side of the station? I used to see such stores along many back roads in the south, and stations like that in every small town.
Growing up in Louisiana I saw many similar to those. We had Esso in LA instead of Enco. I remember the little country stores and the owners lived in the rear part of many of them.
neat family pics, thanks for sharing Jim.
ARMY NAM VET, very proud!

VERY neat photo Jim! what year was that? and how long did your mom drive the '57?
Gary,
1963 was the year the picture was made. I don't know how long she had it. From what I understand, my father kept hot rodding and street racing it so she made him get her another car since he wouldn't leave the 57 alone. He bought the service station in 66 and I think he sold it then to be able to afford a shop truck, but I am not real sure about the specifics, but something along those lines.
She told me once that the 57 was the most beautiful car she ever owned, but she was not into hot rodding and racing. She didn't like my father doing it.
My father and I built a 55 Chevy truck in the mid 70's and put a tractor diesel engine in it from a Case 580 tractor, a 188 diesel. The darn thing got over 50 miles to the gallon. It was all torque. We put an electric over-drive chunk in it to get the speed up to 75 mph. Did not modify the engine at all. I wish I could find the picture. If I ever find the picture, I will post it on here. We did another one around 82 with a 65 Chevy step-side using a Case 207 diesel engine from a 580C. Same thing about 50 mpg.

Your mom was right, jim!
and I'd love to see photos of your diesel case/chevy... *L*
I hope I can find one. I have lost so many pictures with all the "moves" throughout the years.
My father had it painted by a guy who painted his trucks. He painted it with Imron. It was kind of a copper-orange color. I was in my early teens and drove that truck all over the farm and back dirt roads. Those were the good ole days in a farming community where if the Sheriff caught you he just told you to stay on the back roads and drive slow. I miss the freedom of the ole days.
Speaking of Imron when I was 17 my father borrowed my Camaro and crashed it. He explained he was attempting a James Rockford spin and an Oak tree got in the way . Anyways he had it repainted in Imron. It was an emerald green color. Don't remember the Imron name.
Them were the days! My father worked my tail off... but he taught me so much. He was a hard-ass, but he could do pretty much anything.

Jim,... I'd say you received a great upbringing from your parents!
