It is normal to be able to remove the key from the ignition switch with it in any position.

Thank you very much! I just googled and found out the same thing well i now have working door locks also when the new lock set arrives so No harm done
I had my new locks all keyed the same, so One key does every lock on my car.
I don't know how you wired your ignition switch, but on mine with the original 55 switch I didn't think it was up to task for handling the extra current everything takes now. So, I wired it so all it has to do now is operate 2 low current relays. One for ignition/accessories on, another for the starter solenoid. I still remember when you could start 55-60 something Chevys without a key.

The same key fits both my 55 and 56 another fits all 5 trucks I own between 1946 and 1987.
Thanks for the heads up with the current thing! Im gonna do the reley system also and go only minor voltage thru the ignition switch. Im gonna do the starter wire also with reley so it draws voltage thru battery and not the ignition switch. I think i might even do ground switch for the starter so ignition switch provides ground to the reley and not power etc
I wired my ignition switch so it operates the relays control side and draws power straight thru battery, also wired the releys ground thru neutral safety switch so you can start the car only in Park.
