Gathering parts for 383 build, so far have new 700 r4 trans
with 2800 stall converter and a trans cooler that fits on the
frame rail.
How much trans fluid would be needed for this set up and
what brand is best? Its replacing a muncie 4 spd.
Thanks

I would buy at least a case of 12. My 700r4 all have high capicty deep pans with extended pick ups. so I use about 14or 15 quarts. I also use it in power steering in many of my cars. Never gave ATF brands much thought. I even buy type Ftrans fluid, brake fluid , brake clean carb clean screw loose & anti freeze by the case.
I'm getting trans fluid soon for my 4L60E and I was going to pick up about 12 quarts of DEXRON VI, which is probably what to use.
Dex XI was not invented until long after the day of the 700r4. Sometime around 2006 as I recall. It cost twice as much to buy.
Just looked on O'Reillys. Most Dexron 6 synthetic is around $8 a quart. Most Dexron 3 is around $6.50 a quart. No Dexron 4 or 5, or anythng below 3. I did find some ACDelco Dexron 6 at $6.50. I guess that could be a mistake in description or something they don't really have though. But it's not double.
Just picked up some Vavoline DEX VI at Menards for $4.97qt.
