    Holley Parts Made in China

FWI...... This is what happens when bean counters at American companies abandon 'Made in America' and crawl in bed with the Chi-Coms...... Holley did it 15 years ago and this is the result......

funny, troy, i thought the same, but kept my mouth shut. as for posting more stuff, i try to read "today`s posts, at least 5 days a week. i could post more, but with this internet, i try to find my questions answered by digging in. for example, a while ago, i asked about a filter in carter`s electric fuel pump. i kinda felt like i was made an ass out of myself, for no one answered. so, i dug in here on line. bama nomad, and rick l., are usually, probably always commenting, helping me out here. i came here because i understand the site. loved the other site, i guess i`m just stupid, but i just could`nt understand it any more when they changed the format. ok, i rattelled on enough. BTW,,,,,,,,,[new thread].,,,,, thanks for listening.

Thanks, Rick. I really wasn't very clear in my initial post. My point was just that when parts are farmed out to the lowest bidder overseas rather than being made here in America as once they were, quality usually suffers. Its not that the Chi-Coms are incapable of making quality parts. Its that quality costs more and when cost outweighs quality, QC is lax and items that would be pulled from the production line here in America find their way into the supply chain and into the hands of end users to deal with.

And of course, for every American job that is moved overseas, there is a ripple effect throughout both the workplace and the local economy here that affects us all Stateside.

Its not just Holley. MSD and other manufacturers have had similar production and QC issues since moving all or part of their production elsewhere. And for many of the same reasons. That's why certain of MSD's 'Blaster' coils now manufactured in Mexico are plagued with more defects on average than other MSD coils still made here in America.

FWIW...... Issues with Chi-Com manufactured Holley cast carb bodies are why high end custom carb builders Stateside went to higher quality billet carb bodies a while back. That was all I was commenting on...... Quality issues. Which is why we elected to run an older rebuilt carburettor on my son's 350 engine rather than buying a new Holley carb with parts made in China. A personal choice. Not advocating that everyone do the same.

I wasn't intending to go into the theft of intellectual and other properties nor the counterfeiting of parts the Chi-Coms are so well noted for. Although anyone who wants to expand the discussion to encompass that aspect is certainly free to do so.

    Best regards,

    Harry

Troy, the Chit Chat forum is the off topic forum. This is where we discuss non-automotive topics such as current events and yes...... At times, even politics. And we sometimes talk about our cars here on the off topic forum, as well.

Last time I looked, there are at least 28 automotive specific forums here at TriFiveChevys.com in addition to the I.T. help forums, metal working forums, vendor input forums, etc. Lots of choices here if you'd like to check them out. Not enough posting traffic? As Gary noted...... Start your own thread or post on someone else's. If I can add anything of value to the discussion, I will be pleased to join in. And I am sure others here will, as well.

Bottom line...... This is Sid's website and he treats us like adults here. We like that. And so long as everyone follows Sid's posting rules here and treats one another with respect, all is well.

Not sure why anyone would...... But if you actually prefer selective censorship and heavy handed moderating bordering on totalitarianism, you might consider 'CT' or the 'other' trifive website. Their posting rules are much more draconian than Sid's. And as such, your 1st Amendment right to free speech is pretty well forfeit on those websites.

Best regards and look forward to reading your posts,

    Harry

    Harry,

I know but it just seems that there is more "CHIT CHAT" than car talk. I wish I had more to post about my '55 but I'm kind of at a stall on progress! Hopefully I'll get back on it soon.

Since you've admitted to 'old guy health issues', I may as well own up also, Harry... we're the same age I think. My doctor tried to put me on cholesterol and BP meds last fall, but I objected and have been trying to address it with diet and exercise (and weight loss). I've lost about 12 lbs since new years, but would be better served if it had been 30 lbs!
The heart doctor has ran me thru all sorts of tests and giving me scary numbers but I'm still not keen on the meds... and with trying to think of and cook 'vegan' foods and spend time walking/etc, my car work has taken a back seat... I fiddle a little and that's about all the past 8 months...
