A 9 inch with OEM parts would be a down grade from the 9.75 Dana Power-Lock or 9.3 Olds Safety-Track I run in my cars. It will be flipped like all the rest of the Ford junk I acquired. A wise man told me it is best to deal in stuff you do not like it keeps you from hoarding.

My guess is that it us a 28 spline too, still a decent price for a 60 inch wide rear axle. Axle shafts and brakes same as 69 Cougar/ Mustang with 8 inch. A 351 car a 9 with small axles, the Boss & CJ stiff got 31.Hell of a good price if its 31. A 31 is most likely N case.

I suspect you are right on 'buying just the housing', Dave...and I have no idea on $value as I don't have a '69 Ford to put it in..

A very good price if its complete and in good condition. Check the axle spline count. Depending upon what engine it backed up, it could be 31-spline or 28-spline. 28-spline is fine generally and 31-spline will support a bit more power.

FWIW, in the early '70s I ran '64 Galaxie a 28-spline non-posi 9" Ford rear with 4.11 gears and the 4-pinion oval track 3rd member in my '55 Chevy business coupe. That car was something of a test bed. Originally a 6-banger, I swapped several engines into it over a 5-year period...... 'Built' 327, 'built' 350, 413 MOPAR police interceptor and an LS7 454 long block that I bought over the counter from the local Chevy dealer.

Transmission behind all these engines was a rebuilt T-85 Borg Warner 3-speed OD from a '62 Ford Galaxie with the 390 engine. I used the gearcase, input shaft and front bearing retainer from a '62 Pontiac Super Duty T-85 (no OD) to adapt it to my Chevy bellhousing. This car was my daily driver for 5 years and I never abused it, but I drove it hard. Never had a problem with the 9" rear nor the T-85 OD tranny.

    Best regards,

    Harry

Dave, is that the guy in Canada who puts Dana 44 side gears in early '60s Chevy Dana posi rearends so you can beef up the axles to 30-spline Dana 44 spec and makes rear cap braces? I chatted with him some years ago. Is he still in business? When we spoke back then, he left me with the impression that he was out of the game.

    Thanks,

    Harry
