You were considering use of '56 wire wheel covers on your '55 weren't you? If that was the direction you went, you apparently need some special clips to install the wheel covers..

I've never had or even examined in detail the '55 wire wheel covers to know if you might need special clips for them *(or not?)...??

Roadster: To mount the '56 wire covers, I believe you need the special clips (4-clips per wheel). They hook to the edge of the wheel, and also to the lip of the cover and their 'spring action' keeps the wheel cover up to the wheel. Of course the 'center' of the '56 wire wheel cover is simply the std '56 small hubcap.

PS. I had a tip that these clips for Oldsmobiles are superior to the ones provided by Chevrolet (or the repro houses). Here is a source for them...

I bought a set for the '56 accessory truck trim rings I have (on recommendation from a knowledgable person that they are better than the ones provided by Chevrolet). I believed that the '56 accessory wire trims were mounted the same (but I've never owned any of those). Can you provide a photo of the backside of the outer lip of your '56 wires??

Yes, in 1955 and 1956 (and most of '57) the wheels for trifive Chevys were painted the lower body color.
