57 Chevy 3200 Hood Springs - Too Weak

I just replaced the stock hinges as they were not holding up the hood and the "OEM" replacement hinges had the same issue. Is there a stronger spring I should use or should I fabricate a hood rod to support it once it is open without spending $700-$800 on the newer style hinges. Trying to keep it looking stock, but also don't want the hood crashing down on me all the time. Currently using PVC from radiator to the hood, not uncommon, but not the safest solution.

New hinges with new springs should hold your hood up. Talk with the supplier and see what they will do here.
