The aluminum surfaces which I've seen 'oxidize' are generally 'cast surfaces', and possibly the somewhat porous nature probably causes the oxidation over time and with exposure to moisture and temperature changes. Prepping and painting those surfaces prevents the aluminum oxidation and promotes easier cleaning.

A 'machined' aluminum surface isn't as likely to oxidize, and is easier to keep clean or polished than a cast surface.

PS. I've used 'argent silver' urethane paint to paint aluminum parts which appears 'aluminum like' and is much easier to keep clean.

If 56 was a daily driver I would be more concerned about oxidation, as it stands its more of a garage queen.

You must live on a different planet. The only problem I have with as cast aluminum is when it gets fuel or oil on it, then gets heat cycled with dirt included. That's very hard to clean up. But it's not oxidized, it's just dirty.

My buddy who double checked the valve job and assembly of the heads told me they are cast in a better grade of aluminum than the China import crap.

Why is anyone still buying that crap? The money people save in the short run will be payed back out again, as soon as that junk fails its service.
They did a documentary here, a few years ago (they dare not repeat something like this again, nowadays) showing what happens when a cheapo drill gets put into severe service. It starts to smoke, melt and then quit. Then they tested a made in this country drill and it kept going, without any hint of wanting to give up.
The money you waste on that slip-shod stuff eventually goes to their building up their military

I have an assembled long block, need to pull 350 to get the 3x2 setup. Then I have to figure out what to do with it.

It is alive the February of 62 date coded 327 runs again this time with fast burn aluminum Trick Flow Camel Humps. The 3x2 setup still needs fine tuned and the 700r4 cable adjusted. I kind of miss my old th350. A few hiccup's in the install I was unable to fit the road draft tube with Turbo Adaptor Mounts and 700 dipstick. Had to use the nipple and pcv valve form a later 283/327.
