Hoping to join the club

Hi all,
I'm going to look at a '57 210 4 door (post) this weekend. I know a fair amount about cars, but this would be my first 'collector' car purchase. I'm excited to lay eyes on it in person, and hopeful that it's as nice as it looks on the internet. I'm also excited to join the club here and glean as much knowledge as I can from folks who have more of it than I do.

Any advice? Any particular problem areas unique to the 4doors I might not know about?

Curious where you're located and what the car you're looking at is like. I have a "numbers matching" 57 210 4-door with a 283 Power Pack engine and 3-speed overdrive for sale. There's really no VIN on the engine of these cars so "numbers matching" is a misnomer but the parts are properly date-coded and I believe original to the car. It has a seamless frame and original 4.11 rear gears. Body is solid with virtually no rust and all original sheetmetal. Original color is Surf Green. The car was from Arizona and supposedly only has around 50-60K original miles. The previous owner had it for around 20 years and said he put maybe 5K miles on it in that time and it was being stored in a barn when I bought it. It's been sitting in my shop for over 15 years now but was driven there. Needs some minor work to fully restore it. PM if interested.

The one I am looking at this weekend is a 283/4 barrel with the powerglide. Same color as yours. It's been upgraded to power brakes and all the brake hardware is new, carb rebuilt.

One of the rockers and fender-bottoms will need attention soon. That's what has me the most nervous

Chevynut... that's a good looking 4-dr 210 you have. I like the 283 4bbl wtih 3 sp OD... nice combination. I'd update the MC and look at the brakes and DRIVE it..

I've thought about doing that for the past 15 years. I've also thought about doing that with my 62 Corvette. Neither has happened. I really don't want to haul the 57 to Montana so I plan to sell it before the move. I need to get it running and cleaned up.

Welcome El Pee. there are still many 4 doors out there to be found for a good deal. As to rusty rusty rockers and fender bottoms, yes...thats the most likely place for rust. So be diligent when looking around in there. If you are up for the project, that sheet metal can be found new, and can be repaired. But it's work... look for one with minimal rust as a starter project. You'll be miles ahead.
