Soooooo NICE!
Soooooo NICE!
Gorgeous car - great stance, too!
Was having random engine stalling issues during the drive south to the Cruising for a Cure show in Costa Mesa. Very sporatic and unpredictable.
LS1 with a TanksInc stock looking tri-5 tank with a walbro in-tank fuel pump. About half a tank of gas in it. Would just die. And then fire right back up. Did it 2x during the 150+ mile roundtrip drive over 2 days.
Once back home, put it on the lift and drained the tank, then accessed the fuel pump (via the door in the wagon floor I fabbed a while ago). Measured the total depth vs. the tank depth and found that the sock was sitting tight against the floor. Supposed to have 1/4 inch minimum.
Then upon studying how it got that way when I was sure I installed it correctly (couple of years ago now), determined that a hose clamp was just loose enough to allow the pickup/sock to "drop down via gravity" to sit on the bottom of the tank. Apparently, even with 1/2 tank of fuel, that stopped fuel from being sucked in for a split second, resulting in the engine stalling. With a fuel injected engine, it stalls IMMEDIATELY when starved.
So I fixed that issue and it's ran fine ever since.
Lots of other stuff to sort out, but drivable still.

It's probably best to keep nearly a full tank given that the fuel actually cools the fuel pump (located in the tank)...
The good news is you found the problem and its not big $$$$.
Its a 16 gallon tank. So that means I'm filling up every 8 gallons. or every 144 miles. While I agree the pump life is enhanced when running it fully submerged, it doesn't seem practical Bama.

I took your prior post to indicate that you only filled it halfway... I agree with your logic that it's too often to stop for fuel, but my point was that when stopping for fuel, fill it up!
Are you only getting 144/8 or 18 miles/gallon? You have an LS1 with what ratio rear end? I'm thinking/(hoping) that I get much more than that with my 3.08 rear gear and the same engine...?
Bone stock LS1 with Dana 44 Corvette IRS geared at 3:45 ratio.
The T56 trans has 6 gears, so i rarely hit 6th gear except when needing to cruise beyond 80 mph.

Thanks Paul. The difference in our rear gears (your 3.45 vs my 3.08) amounts to about 10% difference. Other than that the difference is in the'way we shift'.. For me, when I'm driving a manual, I'm much more inclined to wind it out, hot rod, etc... Of course you maybe a perfectly rational driver of your 6-speed... ?
Rational? Anything but that... I like to run thru the gears and shift with purpose.
