Car Trailer What tie downs

Well guys bought a used car trailer. Its a 20' with 3500 axles. It has D rings in it, but was thinking of welding some E track on it and buying some nylon straps that go around the wheel. I really like how the U Haul trailers work. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks

I always weld U bolts to bottom of front crossmembers and traction bars for use with rachet straps. I have a set of Moroso straps bought in the late 70s, still work better than new China made.

If looking at e-track, be aware there are different gauges of steel available in those tracks, so chose according to the weight requirement. I've seen some guys buy the cheapest thinking they are saving big moola, and the first time the car is ratcheted down, it deforms the track's shape to no end. Hate to see what would happen if he was in a fender bender and the track & straps absolutely had to hold something...

Robert thought about over these for the fronts and straps on the axle on the back. Just wonder how much pressure this adds to the wheel bearings (side load)? Or am I over thinking this lol!

Nice looking unit. My suggestion, for what it's worth is to first dump the tires you have and get some real trailer tires. Second - you will be using it for primalely moving the 56 to and from locations for racing purposes so establish the exact location of the 56 for best towing first, then put some recessed 8000 lb. towing rings in the floor for uses as your main lovations. I use Moroso equipment. In years past, I had rings positioned in the chassis of the car to attach the straps to (Not to suspension members).

I would think that any side loading would be no more than experienced in driving down the road.. They do make it nice that you're not crawling under something to find your attachment point. Friend of mine has a 51 ford F7 rollback, and had similar tie downs. They work well.
